SZA is a leading figure in modern R&B, famous for her Grammy-winning album *SOS* and popular songs like “Kill Bill.” She’s also cultivated a dedicated fanbase online who frequently create and share artwork and memes celebrating her music and persona.
Lately, a lot of people have been sharing pictures online of themselves alongside AI-created images of SZA, all set against a plain white background. SZA has noticed these edits are everywhere and has asked fans to please stop making them.

On September 19th, SZA used Instagram to ask her fans not to create AI-generated images or music featuring her. She explained that the energy needed to power AI systems is harmful to the environment and contributing to real-world suffering, stating, “If you support me, please don’t make any AI images of me or songs. People and children are dying from the harm and pollution AI energy centers are creating.”
She explained that this technology adds to pollution, disproportionately harming vulnerable communities, and questioned whether a simple image is worth that damage. She warned that every use of AI contributes to suffering in these overlooked areas, and that these effects will eventually impact everyone, potentially beyond the point of no return.
SZA shared examples of AI-generated art featuring her image, and explained she’s not being paranoid – she’s concerned about protecting children.
Fans didn’t appear bothered by SZA’s public call-out. In fact, one fan playfully suggested they’d even get a t-shirt made referencing the story if they ever had the chance to meet her.
