‘Hawkeye’ Writer Andrew Guest Speaks on Prospects of Season 2

In 2021, Jeremy Renner finally starred in his own Marvel project, Hawkeye, which also introduced Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The series paired the two as an unexpected team to defeat the Tracksuit Mafia and briefly stop Wilson Fisk (played by Vincent D’Onofrio) from regaining control. Since its debut on Disney+, updates about a second season have been inconsistent.

Both Marvel Studios and Marvel Television stated that not all of their Disney+ shows would be guaranteed a second season. However, many believed Hawkeye had a good chance of being renewed, largely due to the introduction of the well-received character Kate Bishop. In a recent interview with MovieWeb while promoting Wonder Man, producer Andrew Guest (who also wrote for Hawkeye) revealed that a Season 2 had been considered at Marvel. He shared that the show was well-received by Marvel executives, specifically praising the chemistry between Jeremy Renner and Hailee Steinfeld and expressing his desire to see them reprise their roles.

I was a huge fan of ‘Hawkeye’ Season 1, and I’ve been hoping for a second season ever since! Everyone involved seemed to really love making it, and they were clearly proud of how it turned out. I was so excited to be a part of it, even in a small way. Honestly, the chemistry between Jeremy Renner and Hailee Steinfeld was amazing – I really hope we get to see Clint and Kate team up again sometime!

What Fans Could Expect From ‘Hawkeye’ Season 2

Disney+

Brad Winderbaum, Marvel’s head of television and streaming, specifically mentioned Hawkeye as a series they considered renewing for a second season on Disney+ back in early 2025. Recent statements support his claim, suggesting Marvel has discussed continuing Clint Barton’s story. Now, the focus is on figuring out what a potential second season could be about and when it might arrive.

Rumors suggest that Season 2 of Hawkeye will significantly expand Hailee Steinfeld’s role as Kate Bishop, potentially making her the main character with Clint Barton taking on a supporting one. Given Jeremy Renner hasn’t been confirmed for the next Avengers films and reportedly turned down offers for a smaller role in Hawkeye Season 2, this shift seems likely. There’s also speculation that Kate Bishop could become a leader of the Young Avengers or Champions team in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and Season 2 might begin to explore that storyline.

Now that Hawkeye has dealt with villains like the Tracksuit Mafia and Kingpin, Marvel has plenty of options for more street-level threats in future seasons. They could even delve into Wilson Fisk’s time as mayor, especially with Vincent D’Onofrio and Tony Dalton reprising their roles in both shows. However, since Kingpin is now central to the Daredevil: Born Again series, it raises the question of whether storylines would need to connect the two shows to make sense.

If renewed soon, Marvel Studios aims to release a potential second season of the show around 2027, which is when their current Multiverse Saga is expected to conclude. Jeremy Renner has made a strong recovery from serious injuries sustained in early 2023, as evidenced by his return to television in two seasons of The Mayor of Kingstown and his significant role in the 2025 Netflix film Wake Up Dead Man, the third installment in the Knives Out series. While there were previous disagreements between Renner and Marvel regarding a second season of Hawkeye, and Renner took a substantial pay reduction, Marvel hasn’t officially announced the show’s fate. Fans are still hoping to learn what the future holds for this original Avenger.
