During today’s Xbox Developer Direct, Fictions and Game Freak revealed new gameplay footage from their upcoming game, Beast of Reincarnation.

Game Freak announced that Beast of Reincarnation will be released this summer on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC (via Steam). The game is also part of the Xbox Play Anywhere program and is optimized for handheld devices. You can watch gameplay footage from the recent developer direct, see new screenshots, and find more details on Xbox Wire and the Game Freak website.

It’s been six years in the making, and the team at Game Freak is thrilled to finally share new details about Beast of Reincarnation during Developer_Direct.

We’re incredibly grateful for our players’ continued patience, and as a thank you, we want to share more details about the new features we revealed today.

4026 AD — The Journey of Emma and Koo

The protagonists of this story, Emma and Koo, meet in a land to the East.

Emma was born with a mysterious condition called “blight” that gives her the ability to control plants. Because she has no memories or feelings, people are afraid of her and avoid her, leaving her completely alone.

Koo is a dangerous creature known as a “malefact,” a serious threat to the world. Emma is a “sealer” tasked with hunting these creatures and taking their harmful energy into herself.

Emma and Koo shouldn’t be able to exist in the same world, but destiny brings them together. Their adventure leads them to the Wild West, where they face a powerful entity called the Beast of Reincarnation—the origin of a spreading corruption. This corruption dramatically changes the environment, creating thick, overgrown forests known as “blighted forests,” which are caused by powerful beings called Nushi. To overcome the Beast, Emma and Koo must battle through these forests, defeat the Nushi, and absorb their incredible power and abilities.

A One-Person, One-Dog Action RPG

Beast of Reincarnation is a “one-person, one-dog action RPG.”

The game combines two different ways to play. You control Emma, who battles with quick katana attacks, and Koo, who provides support by using powerful abilities through a command system – think of it like a turn-based RPG.

This game isn’t just about quick reflexes. When you successfully block enemy attacks with Emma, you gain points to power up Koo’s special abilities.

You can access Koo’s abilities through a command menu at any moment, and he has a diverse skillset for dealing with different combat challenges. Whenever you’re in trouble, Koo will be there to help. When you open the menu to choose a skill, the battle temporarily slows down, giving you time to evaluate the situation and plan your next move.

We really focused on the pacing of the game. Instead of demanding quick reactions under pressure, we designed it so players can slow down, strategize, and approach fights like they would in a turn-based RPG.

The game offers three difficulty levels to suit different players. You can choose from Normal, a tough Hard Mode, or Story Mode. Story Mode is designed to be more accessible, with easier parry timing and less damage from enemies.

You can make battles even more interesting by equipping Spirit Stones, which give you different advantages depending on how you fight. As you explore, you’ll also discover new katanas for Emma and Charms for Koo, each offering special bonuses. Combining these items lets you create a combat style that’s uniquely your own.

A Story Where Everyone Has a Big Secret

Emma and Koo are both burdened by a significant secret. As they progress, they’ll meet allies who offer help, but these allies are also hiding things of their own. These interwoven secrets will enrich the story, making it complex and engaging.

We have a lot more to share, but there’s one crucial thing everyone needs to know: never look up at the sky. An old story warns that something is floating up there, and we strongly advise you not to try and see it. It’s for your own safety.

Get ready to explore the world of Beast of Reincarnation, launching this summer! We’re thrilled for players to experience the game, and it will be available on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate from day one. Add it to your wishlist now and watch for more news soon!
