Ill Flos releases for PC via Steam for free on January 30

Kaito, a Japanese indie game developer, is releasing a free game called Ill Flos on Steam for PC. It will be available starting midnight, January 30th, Japanese time (UTC+9).

This game was created using RPG Maker VX Ace. A screenshot reveals it features a 3D world map that players can use to travel by air, made possible by extra plugins.

Kaito not only developed the game but also created all of its music. The complete 59-track soundtrack is available as downloadable content on Steam, and will cost ¥800 in Japan.

I just checked out the official screenshots and info for Ill Flos, and it looks amazing! It’s a little disappointing though – even though the Steam page has English stuff and a description (which looks a bit like it was automatically translated), it seems like the game itself will only be in Japanese for now.

Story

ILL FLOS is a sprawling fantasy RPG centered around a magical World Tree. Players follow Shaar, a young hunter tasked with protecting people by defeating dangerous monsters. He and his friends embark on a quest to discover the source of a mysterious flower called Insania, which is driving the monsters to rage. Their journey will ultimately reveal a hidden truth about the world.

Overview

This game is a classic 2D role-playing game made with RPG Maker VXAce. You battle enemies in turn-based combat and earn Skill Points (SP) that you can use to learn new abilities. A unique feature is the ability to switch characters in and out of battle on the fly, letting you adapt your strategy and try different approaches.

Although the game has one primary ending, it features several side stories that explore the histories of your companions, letting players experience a rich and engaging narrative at their own pace.

Features

The game features completely original music, all composed specifically for it. You can also purchase a full soundtrack containing every song.

As a fan, I’ve noticed something really cool about the battles in this game! There’s a mechanic called “Timing Skill” where every ability has a little cooldown before you can use it again. It’s not just my characters who have to deal with this, enemies do too! It makes combat way more interesting because you really have to think ahead and predict what your opponent – or your allies – will do next. It adds a whole new level of strategy, which I love!

Estimated Playtime

20 hours+

The game is designed to be played at your own pace, in short bursts whenever you have free time. It’s also built so that all players can enjoy everything the game has to offer, no matter how they choose to play.
