Star of ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ Says It’s “Terrifying” to Lead the Show

Peter Claffey, who played a knight in Game of Thrones and is now the lead in the newest spin-off, admits he’s nervous about joining a show with such a dedicated and passionate fanbase. The original Game of Thrones series was hugely popular when it debuted in 2011, and even though the final season disappointed some viewers, it didn’t lose its devoted followers. That’s probably why HBO is continuing to develop more stories based on George R.R. Martin’s world.

I recently read an interview with Claffey in People Magazine about A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, and he was so relatable! He shared that he was a huge Game of Thrones fan, right from the beginning – he really got how much the show means to people. He admitted he’s a little nervous about whether longtime fans will love this new spin-off, and honestly, I feel the same way! It’s great to know someone involved understands what we’re all hoping for.

“It is quite terrifying. I’ve never experienced anything of this scale before.

We really aimed to please both the book readers and the TV show fans by staying true to the characters as much as we could. We’re hoping people will enjoy it, but it’s definitely a bit nerve-wracking.

I’ve been hearing from Claffey about the show, and it sounds really cool! He’s playing a super relatable character – just a regular guy who doesn’t dream of ruling the world. He just wants to be a good knight and have a comfortable place to sleep, you know? He was a huge fan of the original story, calling it beautifully written and saying he really fought hard to land the role. Apparently, the official description says…

One hundred years before the stories of Game of Thrones, Westeros is explored through the adventures of two unexpected heroes. Based on George R. R. Martin’s story, The Hedge Knight, the tale follows Ser Duncan the Tall, a brave but inexperienced knight, and his small squire, Egg. They encounter numerous dangers in a time when the Targaryen dynasty still rules and people still remember seeing dragons. These unlikely friends are destined for greatness and will face formidable enemies along the way.

As a huge fan, I’ve been following everything about this new series, and Martin has hinted it’s going to be something really different. He’s described it as a totally new type of show, so we shouldn’t expect it to feel like just another Game of Thrones spin-off. It sounds like he’s really pushing for something unique!

This show is unlike anything else on television, and I’m thrilled with how Season 1 turned out. The actors were perfectly cast, and the showrunner, Ira Parker, is fantastic. He clearly shares my vision for staying true to the characters and their stories.

“This doesn’t have any dragons or big battles. It has a field and a lot of tents and some horses.”
