In 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, Sir Jimmy Crystal (Jack O’Connell) and his gang, known as the Fingers, are a greater danger than the infected themselves, especially due to their twisted version of “charity.” This concept has a disturbing connection to real-world practices.
The film 28 Years Later concluded with Spike (Alfie Williams) remaining on the mainland, where he was found by a rescue group. This group was notable for all calling themselves Jimmy, and their appearance – including blond wigs and tracksuits – along with their repeated phrase, “How’s that?” strongly hinted they were based on the controversial British television personality, Jimmy Savile.
So, the idea that Jimmy Crystal’s character was based on someone pretty awful is definitely true. I read an interview with the director, O’Connell, in The Hollywood Reporter, and they straight-up asked him if Jimmy was inspired by Jimmy Savile. He confirmed it, saying Jimmy Crystal is basically built on the public’s memory of Savile – that guy who was always on TV.
Jimmy Savile was a well-known television presenter and DJ who passed away in 2011. After his death, police began investigating claims that he had sexually abused many people, including children. Be aware that the following information contains disturbing details.
28 Years Later: The Bone Temple elaborates on Jimmy Savile connection

The Rage virus outbreak began in the UK, but looking back, the seemingly charitable work done by ‘the Jimmys’ appears much more sinister when considering the actual crimes committed by Jimmy Savile.
In The Bone Temple, the villains, led by Jimmy and his Fingers, refer to torture as “charity.” This leads to the most shockingly violent scene in the entire horror series. It starts when the group invades a survivor’s farm and restrains the homeowner in a barn.
In this situation, they express their generosity by taking off their shirts, essentially exposing their chests. Later, Jimmima expresses a desire to remove a man’s pants, meaning to expose his lower body – including his genitals.
In the film 28 Years Later, we witness a disturbing consequence of the group’s kindness. Spike and Jamie discover a man with the name “Jimmy” carved into his chest, suspended upside down as a gruesome target for the infected.
Before the truth about Savile’s crimes was revealed, he was widely known for his charity work and frequent appearances in the media. This led to him receiving an OBE in 1971 and being knighted in 1990 – a title that, like the nickname of Jimmy Crystal, included the use of “Sir.”

Even though people accused him of sexual abuse while he was alive, their claims were mostly disregarded. After his death, a thorough investigation into the numerous allegations revealed that he was a serial sex offender who preyed on others.
Numerous documentaries and true crime programs have revealed how Jimmy Savile exploited his charity work to appear trustworthy and powerful. He used this image to get close to people at risk in places like hospitals, schools, and care facilities.
The group in 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, known as the Jimmys, aren’t motivated by sexual desire in their supposed “charity.” They worship the devil, or “Old Nick.” However, whether meant to or not, their actions still eerily echo and continue the disturbing practices of Jimmy Savile, making it a deeply ironic and cruel situation.
The new horror film, 28 Years Later, is now playing in theaters. We’ve also got articles exploring how the movie impacts the infected, whether Spike will revisit Holy Island, and a list of the greatest horror films of all time.
