This X-Men Hero Deserves A Cameo In The MCU’s Next Live-Action Show

Before Kelsey Grammar returns as Beast (Hank McCoy) in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday movie, he’s expected to make a cameo appearance in the Marvel series Wonder Man. Grammar first played the character—an older version of the X-Men member who became a politician—in X-Men: The Last Stand and recently had a quick appearance in The Marvels. This would be his third time portraying Beast.

Besides Beast, the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday will feature at least five familiar mutants from the X-Men films: Cyclops, Professor X, Magneto, Mystique, and Nightcrawler. Although we likely won’t see him again until the movie comes out later this year, there’s a possibility he could appear sooner in Wonder Man.

Wonder Man’s Connection To Beast In Marvel Comics

Over the many years of Avengers comics, some truly memorable friendships have developed. One of the most beloved is the close bond between Beast and Wonder Man. They first met and became teammates in the late 1970s when they were both members of the Avengers.

Though very different – one a fun-loving, eccentric scientist and the other a quieter, hopeful actor – Beast and Wonder Man quickly became close friends. They enjoyed spending their downtime together, sharing drinks and jokes, and teamed up effectively as allies on Avengers missions.

The Avengers comic book often showcased the playful relationship between Beast and Wonder Man, like the time Beast played a prank on Wonder Man and was hilariously launched into the air as a result. Marvel has continued to pair them up on adventures throughout the years—even as recently as 2023—proving that this is truly one of Marvel’s most beloved and long-lasting friendships.

How Wonder Man Can Feature A Beast Cameo (Without The Multiverse Getting In The Way)

Given that the X-Men probably live in a different universe, bringing Beast into the world of Wonder Man would be very difficult for Marvel. However, the Wonder Man show could still manage it, particularly if Marvel sees the show’s conclusion as a way to begin setting up Avengers: Doomsday.

Similar to the post-credits scene in Thunderbolts which revealed the Fantastic Four’s ship, the Wonder Man movie could end with a surprise appearance by Beast. This would establish his presence in the main Marvel universe (Earth-616) right before Avengers: Doomsday. This setup could lead to a funny interaction between Beast and Wonder Man, referencing their dynamic from the comics.

The story might explain why Beast and Wonder Man meet by connecting it to how Simon Williams originally got his powers. In the comics, Wonder Man isn’t a mutant, but the show’s promotion suggests his abilities were always hidden. They could explain this by giving him mutant DNA, and that could be why Beast is looking for him.
