The 24-Year-Old Mystery That Needs To Be Solved If Smallville Ever Gets A Revival

Though the TV show Smallville concluded in 2011, fans have often wondered if the story could continue. While a comic book, Smallville Season 11, followed the finale, and Tom Welling and Erica Durance later returned as Clark and Lois in the Arrowverse‘s “Crisis on Infinite Earths” event, a full-fledged revival of the series hasn’t happened.

Despite years passing, a continuation of the show hasn’t been officially dismissed. Actors Tom Welling and Michael Rosenbaum, who played Lex Luthor, have often discussed the idea, usually imagining it as an animated series. Reportedly, Welling, Rosenbaum, and both creators of Smallville – Alfred Gough and Miles Millar – are interested in revisiting the show, but they need Warner Bros. to approve it first and are waiting for the right moment.

If a continuation were to happen, it would probably give a much older Superman a chance to experience completely new adventures, now that the main stories have been concluded. However, there’s one particular storyline it should definitely explore again, given how different and interesting it was compared to typical Superman tales.

Smallville Revealed An Ancient Kryptonian Came To Earth With Knowledge Of Superman’s Destiny

As a big fan of Smallville, I always loved how season 2 really started digging into Clark’s origins. They did this through the Kawatche Caves, which were covered in incredible Native American art that actually predicted Superman’s coming! The show explained this amazing place by revealing that centuries ago, someone – a ‘man from the stars’ – met with the Kawatche tribe and told them all about Clark, even giving him the name ‘Naman.’ It was a really cool way to connect his powers to a deeper history.

This created many mysteries for Clark to solve, but one crucial question remained unanswered: the story of an ancient Kryptonian who arrived on Earth knowing Clark would one day live there and fight Lex Luthor.

It seems these questions went unanswered because the point of the Kawatche Caves wasn’t to prove an ancient Kryptonian existed. Instead, the caves were meant to help Clark understand his past and draw the Luthors into the unfolding mystery, as they became fascinated by the caves themselves.

Despite this, the idea of such a character is fascinating. It brings a new element to the Superman story that we don’t usually see.

Smallville’s Revival Could Explore What Happened To Its Ancient Kryptonian

Because the original concept was so unique, a new version of Smallville could really stand out from other Superman stories by revisiting its roots. It could do this by focusing again on the Kawatche tribe and the origins of the legends surrounding Clark. Given that Smallville previously suggested Superman could be immortal, it’s possible the original “man from the stars” is still out there somewhere.

The show has a chance to reveal the full story of this character – why he came to Earth, how he knew what was going to happen, and what became of him. There are a few possibilities: he might be a time traveler, or a Kryptonian who foresaw his planet’s destruction and came to Earth to help Clark ensure his people’s survival.

If Smallville is ever revived, there’s a chance a previously underappreciated character from the original series could finally get the spotlight after being overlooked for 24 years.
