A funny sketch imagined what would happen if HBO decided to revamp its planned Harry Potter TV series, taking inspiration from the style of their hit sports drama, Heated Rivalry, and creating a show called “Heated Wizardry.” The sketch playfully combined elements of Stranger Things and Heated Rivalry to envision this new take on the Harry Potter universe.
This week’s SNL host delivered a long sketch where they played Harry Potter in a surprising twist. Due to a last-minute script change, this Harry Potter is romantically interested in Ron (played by Ben Marshall), leading to a completely different storyline than the original TV show.
As you’d expect from Saturday Night Live, the sketch quickly devolved into jokes about magical wands and brooms, with a particularly outrageous moment involving a line delivered by someone dressed as Hagrid – “You’re a homo, Harry” – set in a Hogwarts where Quidditch is portrayed as intensely competitive and suggestive. And, to be clear, this Quidditch involves players being half-naked, making it definitely not appropriate for children.

The sketch also featured Chloe Fineman as Hermione, James Austin Johnson as Severus Snape, Ashley Padilla as Professor McGonagall, and Kenan Thompson as Alastor Moody. Some viewers have been surprised by the parody, but Saturday Night Live is known for its outrageous humor – remember the Home Alone sketch with Ariana Grande where Kevin’s booby traps were incredibly violent?
