A recent report suggests we might know when Kit Harington will return as Dane Whitman in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While introduced in Eternals as the boyfriend of Sersi, Whitman’s comic book background suggests a larger role to come. He’s connected to the powerful Ebony Blade, a family heirloom, and is expected to eventually become the Black Knight. However, Mahershala Ali’s Blade cautioned him against using the mystical sword, potentially delaying those plans.
It’s been over four years since the movie Eternals came out, and with no news about a sequel, many fans thought the cliffhanger ending wouldn’t be addressed. Now, good news for fans of Kit Harington (known for Game of Thrones): a reliable source says he’ll be returning as Dane Whitman in a new project called Midnight Sons.

Sources say Marvel Studios is developing a script for Midnight Sons, a potential team-up movie similar to The Avengers, featuring the more supernatural characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The film, planned for Phase 7 or later, is reportedly based on a significant storyline involving the character Mephisto.
According to The Cosmic Circus, Alex Perez reported that Mahershala Ali was expected to appear as Blade and in a future Midnight Sons project. However, recent reports suggest Marvel Studios has cancelled Blade after numerous delays and will now focus on introducing Ali’s character properly in Midnight Sons instead.
Kit Harington’s potential return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe comes at a good time, especially after HBO put his planned Game of Thrones sequel, Snow, on hold. He’ll be back on screen with his former Game of Thrones co-star, Sophie Turner, soon in the gothic horror film The Dreadful, which releases on February 20th.
Kit Harington’s MCU Future Is Finally Getting Interesting

If Kit Harington comes back as Dane Whitman in Midnight Sons, it’s likely he’ll finally use the Ebony Blade and become Black Knight. Since we last saw him in Eternals, Whitman could have learned a lot from Mahershala Ali’s Blade, who might already be familiar with the Ebony Blade’s power.
Kit Harington finally becoming the Black Knight delivers on years of fan wishes and aligns with the original reason he was cast. It’s safe to assume producers envisioned the star of Game of Thrones as a superhero wielding a sword when they first considered him for the role.
It’s questionable whether the upcoming Midnight Sons movie is trying to do too much. The film plans to introduce characters like Blade and Ghost Rider, revive older ones such as Moon Knight and Werewolf by Night, and turn another character into Black Knight—all alongside its own story focused on the villain Mephisto, and the effort to unite them all. It remains to be seen if it can effectively balance so many characters and plotlines.
Given the scope of its story, Marvel Studios might be wise to delay Midnight Sons and introduce elements gradually across different movies and shows. Fans are hoping this is just the start for the Black Knight within the MCU, and that Midnight Sons will eventually give the character a proper spotlight on the big screen.
