So, the original idea for the show was actually based on a concept from Michael Crichton, the creator of ER. But his estate decided it wasn’t the right fit, which meant we had to completely rethink things. We started fresh, building a new world around a doctor named Robby and setting the whole series in Pittsburgh. Honestly, as I’ve watched it develop, there are definitely echoes of ER in the vibe and how it’s filmed, but the characters and stories themselves are totally new and feel very relevant to today’s world – it really feels like its own thing, The Pitt.
