What’s driving game sales more than anything these days isn’t fancy packaging, amazing graphics, or endless gameplay – it’s the warm feeling of nostalgia. Players are really drawn to games that remind them of good times from the past.
While many games today focus on huge, constantly updated worlds, there’s a real appreciation growing for games that feel like the classics from the 16-bit era. SEGA seems to understand this perfectly, and they’re consistently bringing their beloved older games to modern consoles and PCs.
SEGA fans are in for a treat this week! Mighty Rabbit Studios, Headless Chicken Games, and Limited Run Games joined forces on Friday to bring back three beloved SEGA CD and Genesis games to Western audiences. These games were previously released in Japan last month.
The Earnest Evans Collection Brings the Wolf Team Legacy to Modern Platforms

Known as the Earnest Evans Collection, this package includes three notable works: Earnest Evans, El Viento, and Annet Returns.
These games were first made by the talented team at Wolf Team, who later became famous for creating the popular Tales of RPG series. Over the years, these three titles have become beloved classics for fans of retro gaming.
SEGA continues to focus on bringing its older, beloved games to today’s consoles and devices.
I’m totally hooked on these games! They’re like classic Castlevania side-scrollers, and you follow the stories of two awesome characters, Earnest Evans and Annet Myer. The plot is just crazy – you’re fighting Al Capone one minute, then trying to stop a seriously powerful dark lord named Hastur from coming back to life! And on top of that, you’ve got to deal with Siegfried Munchausen and this evil group called NeXesis. It’s such a fun, nostalgic adventure, and I’m so glad it’s finally available to play!
The great news is this updated version is out now on several popular platforms, including PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC (through Steam). These new releases also include helpful improvements and features designed for today’s gamers, making it enjoyable for both longtime fans and new players.
The biggest improvement for most players is likely the rewind feature, which lets you undo any mistakes – a really helpful addition, especially considering how difficult old-school games can be! Plus, you can now save your game at any point, letting you enjoy the challenging levels at your own speed.
This collection features both the CD and cartridge versions of Earnest Evans, each with a unique story. It also includes a soundtrack by the renowned composer Motoi Sakuraba, famous for his work on games like Star Ocean and Valkyrie Profile, and fully voiced cutscenes for both Earnest Evans and Annet Returns. These cutscenes were produced by the celebrated anime studio Madhouse, known for series such as Trigun and Cardcaptor Sakura.
Watch the new trailer below to see what this collection is like. It’s more than just a simple re-release, but not a complete remake – it’s made for fans of classic games.
These classic games from the Earnest Evans Collection were released in Japan last month, but fans in the West have been hoping for an affordable and accessible way to play them without needing to buy costly, older consoles or expensive imports.
I think this is a fantastic way to kick off 2026! This nostalgic collection will bring back happy childhood memories for many players – myself included – and remind us all why we love video games.
