Although there were reports that the series was finishing up, the franchise continues. After The Conjuring: Last Rites did well, plans were made for another movie that goes back in time to tell an earlier story.
Recently, Warner Bros. announced release dates for several upcoming movies. One of these is a new installment in The Conjuring horror series, titled The Conjuring: First Communion, which is scheduled to hit theaters on September 10, 2027.
As a big horror fan, I have to say the Conjuring universe just keeps expanding! It all started with the first Conjuring movie back in 2013, and since then, we’ve gotten three more films that continue the story of Ed and Lorraine Warren – those amazing paranormal investigators played by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga. It’s seriously been a wild ride following their cases!
A year after the first film, a spin-off called Annabelle was released, focusing on the doll from the original movie. Annabelle then got two sequels of its own. In 2018, the franchise expanded again with The Nun, which also had a sequel in 2023. The most recent installment, The Conjuring: Last Rites (released in 2025), was initially presented as the final film, but it actually only concluded the first chapter of the series, leaving the door open for more stories.
The latest film, Last Rites, was a huge success, helping the main series earn over $1 billion. Across all nine films in The Conjuring Universe, the total box office revenue exceeded $2.77 billion, all from a combined production budget of just $263 million.
A new film is in development, though details are still limited. Director Rodrigue Huart is being considered to helm the project, and Richard Naing and Ian Goldberg – the writers of the previous two films – are expected to write the script.
