Resident Evil Requiem takes a risk that could define the future of the series. New gameplay showcase heralds a mix of the best installments

Resident Evil Requiem comes out next month, and Capcom is starting to build excitement. Yesterday, they held a Resident Evil Showcase where they revealed new gameplay and shared more details about the game.

You can find the official video on Capcom’s YouTube channel.

Best installments in one

From the start, the game’s director, Koshi Nakanishi, explained that Requiem would blend elements from multiple previous games. The sections where you play as Grace are designed to feel similar to Resident Evil 2 or Resident Evil 7, meaning fewer resources, claustrophobic environments, scarier enemies, and a stronger focus on horror. Players won’t always be able to shoot their way out of trouble and will often need to rely on stealth.

However, the sections where you control Leon will feel similar to the gameplay in Resident Evil 4. Expect intense, action-packed moments, fitting for Leon’s background. He’ll have access to an axe for blocking attacks, and the game’s director has confirmed a major focus on refining the shooting mechanics. Where you aim will be crucial, and you’ll be able to collect weapons from fallen enemies.

We’ve revamped the item crafting system to work like the one in Resident Evil 2. Now, you can use special “injectors” that need zombie blood to create. In a recent video, you can see Grace using one of these injectors to instantly defeat an enemy after sneaking up on them.

The game will have three difficulty settings. The default will be a modern experience, while a classic mode will require special tapes to save your progress. A casual mode will include helpful features like aim assist to make the game easier.

The new game, Resident Evil Requiem, comes out on February 27th for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2. It was also announced that you’ll be able to play it on GeForce Now.
