A team of builders has spent five years creating a complete, life-sized replica of New York City within the game Minecraft.
Minecraft might seem simple with its block-based graphics, but the creativity of its players is truly amazing.
It’s amazing what people can build in these games! I’ve seen everything from huge cities and fancy mansions to full-on recreations of places like Hyrule from Breath of the Wild. But it’s not just about fictional worlds – players are bringing all sorts of things to life, which is really cool.
After more than five years of work, a team of builders has successfully rebuilt New York City within the game, and it’s a remarkably accurate, full-scale replica.
Minecraft builders team up to recreate New York City
On January 11, 2026, YouTuber MineFact shared a video showing off the incredible results of a huge project. From afar, it’s remarkably similar to the actual landmark it’s based on.
And the detail doesn’t stop there. The team didn’t just recreate over 50,000 buildings to make the city look realistic – they also added incredibly small details, like individual flower pots, to bring it to life.
MineFact said that the team realized how much details matter over the years.
He described a moment when a user from New York logged in and was amazed to see their flower pot positioned exactly as it was on their real-life balcony. “That’s when you realize all the effort is worthwhile,” he said. “Their reactions are just incredible.”
The game project featured numerous famous New York City locations, such as the World Trade Center, Tribeca, the Two Bridges area, Little Italy, and Chinatown.
The results are fantastic, but getting here wasn’t easy. There was a steep learning curve, and the team definitely faced some setbacks and made errors along the way.
They persevered and iterated so much that their initial efforts are completely gone – everything has been rebuilt from scratch several times over.
