Best-Selling Batman & TMNT Writer Expands New Horror Movie Deal

Lyrical Media is partnering with Tiny Onion, the production company of acclaimed comic book writer James Tynion IV, to create two new horror movies based on his stories.

The partnership will transform his comic book series, Exquisite Corpses, into a new format. They also plan to create a full-length movie based on his short story, Room Service, which was previously made into a short film released earlier this year.

According to Deadline, writer Tynion and Alexander Black, CEO of Lyrical Media, both shared their enthusiasm for the upcoming collaboration. Black highlighted Tynion’s impressive work, especially his success since moving beyond traditional comic books. Tynion has earned critical praise and five Eisner Awards for his independent series published with companies like Image Comics.

Exquisite Corpses is a horror comic about a deadly competition held every five years. Twelve highly skilled assassins, backed by wealthy families, are unleashed in a small town and forced to fight to the death until only one remains. The family sponsoring the winning assassin then gains control of the country for the next five years. The series was co-created by Tynion and Michael Walsh.

According to Black, Tynion is redefining the horror genre, and through Tiny Onion, he’s adapting those stories for the screen. Black praised Tynion’s dedication and consistent artistic vision, and expressed his satisfaction with their collaboration, looking forward to releasing their two new films.

As a huge horror fan, I’ve been consistently blown away by James’s work in comics – he really pushes boundaries. Now, with Tiny Onion, he’s not just telling stories, he’s building a whole universe ripe for film and TV, and thankfully, he has a dedicated fanbase already! Here at Lyrical, we’re all about giving talented creators like James the freedom to really go for it, and these upcoming films are exactly that – the kind of original, creator-led storytelling that could become the next big name in horror. We’re thrilled to keep working with James and to help bring his vision for Tiny Onion to life – I have a feeling it’s going to be something special.

Tynion shared his thanks to Lyrical Media, saying they were essential to the success of Tiny Onion. He also expressed appreciation for his collaborators, thanking them for joining him on this new venture and for their dedication to his work. You can find his full statement below.

When I founded Tiny Onion, my top priority was finding collaborators who shared my passion for creating amazing worlds. Lyrical has been a fantastic partner from the beginning, and I’m so excited to continue working with them on future projects. These projects were made with a lot of care and dedication alongside my talented co-creators, and I’m eager to bring that same creativity to film.

I’m really excited about everything Lyrical Media is doing! While they’re known for comics like Exquisite Corpses and Room Service, they’ve got a big movie in the works too. It’s based on the X-Men villain Onslaught – created by Scott Lobdell, Mark Waid, and Andy Kubert – and it’s currently being finished up after filming.

As of today, there’s no confirmed release date for the movie adaptations of Tynion’s Exquisite Corpses and Room Service.
