Resident Evil Requiem Showcase Reveals Grace And Leon Gameplay Differences

Capcom’s recent Resident Evil showcase offered limited story details, but highlighted how gameplay will vary based on the character you choose. The game will also introduce new difficulty levels to the series. Playing as the new character, Grace Ashcroft, will offer a more traditional horror experience, reminiscent of Resident Evil 2 and 6. However, when you control Leon S. Kennedy, the game will lean towards the faster-paced, action-focused style of Resident Evil 4.

Players won’t be able to freely switch between characters; the story is designed around experiencing specific parts as either Grace or Leon. While Grace isn’t as strong as Leon, she has unique skills, like the ability to create weapons from infected blood. She also has a powerful handgun called Requiem for tough situations, but ammo will be scarce to encourage players to use a variety of tactics.

RE Requiem is adding several new difficulty levels. The easiest, Casual mode, focuses on storytelling and provides aim assistance for players. Standard mode offers a moderate challenge, while Standard (Classic) brings back an old-school save system – players need to find rare ink ribbons to save their progress, just like in previous games.

Okay, so one of the coolest things about this new game is the zombies. They’re not just mindless monsters anymore! Some of them are seriously creepy because they’re still going through the motions of their old jobs – like their bodies are on autopilot. It’s wild! You can actually sneak past a few of them, or if you pay attention to what they’re doing, it can give you hints on how to get through certain areas. It’s a really neat way to add some depth to the gameplay.

During the demonstration, at least one of the zombie creatures was able to talk to Grace, suggesting some level of retained humanity. It’s currently unknown whether this was just a typical zombie, or if it plays a significant role in the story.

Resident Evil Requiem will be released on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC on February 27.
