7 Years Later, Disneyland Is Finally Giving Us The Star Wars Experience We’ve All Been Waiting For

After a seven-year wait, Disneyland is bringing the Star Wars experience fans have been hoping for to life. Galaxy’s Edge is getting some significant updates, many of which were suggested by visitors since the area first opened.

When Galaxy’s Edge opened at Disneyland and Walt Disney World in 2019, the idea was to create a place that felt like a specific moment in the Star Wars universe – set between the events of the most recent set of films.

For a while now, Disney has been slightly adjusting the established storyline to include characters from the New Republic era. But recently, they announced that Galaxy’s Edge will be taking even bigger leaps, adding entirely new elements that don’t fit within the existing Star Wars canon – and fans are excited!

Disneyland’s Galaxy Edge Is Finally Introducing Original Trilogy Characters (Like Darth Vader)

Disney Parks has announced that Galaxy’s Edge and the world of Batuu will be getting some exciting updates starting at the end of April. This timing is perfect for Star Wars Day on May the Fourth and the popular Star Wars Nites events at Disneyland.

The biggest update will be the addition of Darth Vader and Imperial Stormtroopers, bringing characters from the original Star Wars trilogy into the themed land for the very first time. Before now, characters from those earlier films rarely appeared anywhere in the park, except for occasional visits to Tomorrowland.

Fans can expect to see Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa, and Han Solo, along with other familiar faces from the original trilogy. These characters will generally be located near the Millennium Falcon. Meanwhile, characters from the newer ‘Age of Resistance’ storyline, such as Rey Skywalker, will be found closer to the Rise of the Resistance attraction.

You can also find characters from The Mandalorian, like Din Djarin, Grogu, and Ahsoka, wandering between the different areas of Galaxy’s Edge. Plus, reports say Kylo Ren and his First Order soldiers will be appearing in Tomorrowland. But these character appearances are just the beginning – even more changes are planned for Galaxy’s Edge.

Even More Changes Are Coming To Galaxy’s Edge in 2026

As a huge movie fan, I’m really excited to hear that Smuggler’s Run is getting a big update in 2026! It’ll be a brand-new adventure with Din Djarin and Grogu, perfectly timed with the release of the Mandalorian & Grogu film. It’s going to be awesome to experience that world right before seeing their next big screen adventure!

Guests visiting Galaxy’s Edge will soon hear even more of John Williams’ iconic Star Wars music throughout the land. Plus, parts of the Batuu environment are being refreshed to more closely match the look and feel of the original Star Wars trilogy and its characters.

Finally, we’re going to see some exciting changes to Star Wars attractions, which many Disney Parks fans have been eagerly anticipating, moving beyond the sequel trilogy.
