A Valheim Player Is Filling His Server With Dollar Generals To Mess With His Friends

Life in the Viking afterlife of Valheim is challenging enough, but one player is making it even more unusual by building a network of Dollar General stores and chain restaurants on his server, much to the annoyance of his friends. Starting with a single building, these bland, brightly lit stores have quickly multiplied and spread throughout the game world.

It all began when a Valheim player known as Greg the Sorcerer shared a screenshot of a remarkably detailed Dollar General store he’d built in the game, as reported by PC Gamer. He jokingly said he was doing it to annoy his friends. The recreation is incredibly impressive, featuring a bright, glowing sign and even fluorescent lights inside.

Pissing off my friends in valheim by building dollar generals

Complete with obnoxious florescent lighting

Soon after Greg noticed the building, his friends began sharing screenshots too. One, under the username Paladin Posting, asked, “What even is a Dollar General? And why is it on my Valheim server?” Another player, Woman Mage, shared a different view of the building, calling it “completely ridiculous.”

WTF IS A DOLLAR GENERAL. WHY IS IT IN MY VALHEIM SERVER

Greg continued his construction spree, tackling tougher enemies like deathsquitos and Fulings to put up another Dollar General in the plains. The Paladin Posting, clearly frustrated, was quick to notice the new location.

That’s much better

Okay, so things were getting weird with my friend Greg and our Valheim game. The final thing that pushed me over the edge was seeing this massive, laughing face emoji someone had built right near the first Dollar General in the game. I seriously couldn’t even. I posted a screenshot and just said, “I’m done playing with Greg.” I even admitted in the comments that I totally went and destroyed that emoji right after seeing it!

Greg stopped building Dollar Generals in Valheim, but he’s started creating other chain restaurants. He recently built what appears to be the first Waffle House in the game, right in the middle of a swamp, and even has a skeleton working behind the counter! Another player, Paladin Posting, visited and wasn’t impressed with the service, calling it terrible.

The inhabitants of this place may be long dead but the Waffle House still stands strong

Why bother creating duplicates when I can just force the swamp dwellers to work for me?

Greg recently shared an image of a McDonald’s restaurant he built on top of a snowy mountain. He explained that each of his builds usually takes two or three hours, but this one took a little longer because he first had to flatten part of the mountainside to create a stable base.

Thank Odin I was getting hungry

I’ve been seeing so much buzz on X about this hilarious idea! People are begging Greg, the developer of Valheim, to add some totally out-of-place stores like Spirit Halloween or Denny’s into the really tough areas of the game. It’s such a funny concept, and everyone seems to think it would be amazing to see!

Valheim has been in development for over three years, with Iron Gate Studios steadily adding new content. They’re currently finishing the final major area, called the Deep North, which will be included in the full 1.0 version of the game. While development on this final update began in mid-2024, there’s no confirmed release date just yet.
