Ever since the showrunner revealed it wasn’t Stephen who was secretly calling Bree before her wedding on Hulu’s Tell Me Lies, fans have been trying to figure out who it was. The first episode of Season 3 offers some big clues.
As a fan, I’ve been thinking about that mysterious phone call in Season 2 of Tell Me Lies! Remember how Bree kept getting calls from an unknown number? It was so unsettling! The night before her wedding to Evan, she actually said to whoever was calling, “Please just leave me alone. I want to feel like a good person.” It really stuck with me and made me wonder who was on the other end and what they wanted.
The season ends with her getting a recording from Stephen – he secretly captured Evan confessing to having an affair with Lucy (Grace Van Patten) during college. It might seem like she was talking to Stephen or Oliver (Tom Ellis) before, but that wasn’t the case.
So, the showrunner, Meaghan Oppenheimer, stayed tight-lipped about who’s been making those mysterious calls, but she did say it’s definitely not Stephen or Oliver. But after watching the first episode of Season 3, a lot of us fans think we’ve actually figured it out! It’s been driving everyone crazy trying to guess.
Who is calling Bree in Tell Me Lies Season 3?

It’s impossible to say for sure, but currently the most likely suspects are Alex Costa D’Angelo and Spencer House, known as Wrigley.
A recent poll on the Tell Me Lies subreddit shows Alex currently leading with 1097 votes. Wrigley is a close second with 1078, and an unspecified candidate trails behind with 624 votes.
Marianne is far behind in fourth place with a score of 129, and Lydia is last with only 61. We’ve received messages from people wondering if the storyline might change now that Oliver has returned, but we’ve heard from a reliable source that he’s still not involved.
We first meet Alex in the first three episodes of Season 3, where he appears as a drug dealer in the neighborhood. But as the story unfolds, we learn he’s actually someone Bree knew from her past – her former foster brother.
Alex doesn’t remember much about her time at the home, but she says she used to be quite bossy. The difficult things that happened there clearly affected her. Bree remembers that Alex was always protective of her.
So, in college, Lucy actually started dating Alex, and surprisingly, Bree was totally cool with it. As for figuring out who was harassing her, before she told him to back off, Bree really opened up and said she finally had a shot at happiness – a real chance to build a family and feel like she truly belonged, like she wasn’t just watching life happen to everyone else.
Honestly, as a fan, it makes total sense that they would get why she’s thinking this way – they saw everything she went through growing up! But a lot of us also think it could be someone else, because Wrigley just doesn’t strike us as the type to behave like that.
Someone suggested that Alex was likely the person Bree was talking to on the phone, reasoning that Bree wouldn’t typically be angry or annoyed with Wrigley.
Wrigley is a very kind and patient person, so I don’t believe he would ever make Bree feel like she’d talk to him that way. However, I can easily imagine Bree having that same conversation with someone like Alex.
Okay, so I was reading the theories, and one fan thinks it would totally make sense if Alex was the one involved! They’re saying he and Lucy started dating, and Bree actually hooked up with him – which explains why she wasn’t furious or called off the wedding. That’s also why she was so quick to call Lucy awful, because she was secretly jealous of his relationship with Lucy!
There are a lot of possibilities here. Alex also explained to Lucy that he avoids getting emotionally involved with people he doesn’t see a future with, because he’s been hurt that way before.
Wrigley is the character everyone’s talking about. Season 3 hints at a growing connection between him and Bree, and with Pippa currently having an affair with Diana, a romance between Bree and Wrigley seems possible.
Many people are hoping for Wrigley to be a romantic match, and they’re also excited about the possibility of him getting together with Bree. Some commenters expressed this by saying they ‘ship’ Wrigley and Bree, even if it’s unexpected, like one who wrote, “Wrigley but I Stan it,” and another who said, “Wrigley but I’m so excited.”
Some people noticed Wrigley seemed unsteady at the wedding, leading to speculation that he’s struggling, possibly because he still has feelings for Bree.
One guest mentioned that Wrigley seemed a bit distracted at the wedding. They initially suspected it might be related to his brother, but now wonder if it had to do with Bree getting married.
In the final episode of Tell Me Lies Season 2, during the wedding scene, Wrigley confesses to Lucy that he’s had a crush on her for ten years and is finally ready to move on.

Lucy thought Wrigley was referring to Pippa, but he glanced towards Bree instead, who was preparing nearby. One fan also questioned why Wrigley would call Pippa his crush, considering they used to date.
There are many other ideas about who might be involved, including theories about Bree’s foster sister, Lydia (Natalee Linez), and Oliver’s wife, Marianne (Gabriella Pession). Some people even suspect Oppenheimer is intentionally misleading us, and the real culprit could be Stephen or Oliver.
Tell Me Lies Season 3 sparks Hannah mystery

Adding to the ongoing theories about the Bree phone call, viewers have discovered another puzzle: a missed call on Stephen’s phone in Season 3 of Tell Me Lies from a person named Hannah.
In the first episode of Season 3, Stephen goes to Max’s bar (owned by Edmund Donovan), likely hoping to bother Lucy following their recent split. He attempts to call his sister, Sadie (played by Alayna Hester), and when she doesn’t pick up, he checks his phone.
The camera’s records reveal he’d called Sadie eleven times without a response. He did answer a call from Dilan and missed a call from Hannah.
The characters Dilan and Hannah don’t appear in the Hulu series or the book ‘Tell Me Lies,’ suggesting they might just be minor characters or a one-time encounter. However, fans are still curious about who they are.
Someone on TikTok pointed out that Stephan’s call log showed recent calls to people named Dilan and Hannah, sparking curiosity about who they are. Another user agreed, suggesting this detail might be significant later on in the story.
Right now, we can only guess what will happen and look forward to Season 3 for some answers. The next episode will be available on Hulu on January 20th.
