Robert Downey Jr. playfully dubbed the future release date when both Avengers 5 and Dune 3 hit theaters. Both movies are generating a lot of excitement and are expected to be huge events for film fans. Avengers 5 will see Robert Downey Jr. return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, this time as Doctor Doom, and Dune 3 will continue the epic science fiction story started by Denis Villeneuve in 2021.
Robert Downey Jr. names Avengers 5 and Dune 3’s release day
During a private showing of Timothée Chalamet’s new movie, Marty Supreme, Robert Downey Jr. chatted with Chalamet about the film and their careers. Downey Jr. then pointed out an interesting coincidence: both of their upcoming movies – Avengers: Doomsday and Dune: Part Three – are set to be released on the same day this year.
It was so funny listening to Robert Downey Jr. speak! He and Timothée Chalamet both have movies coming out on December 18th, and they came up with this playful name for it – ‘DUNESDAY’! Everyone laughed, and then Robert joked with Timothée, saying they’d see if they were still friends after that date. It was a really lighthearted moment.
Robert Downey Jr. is experiencing another potential box office event with “Dunesday,” following his involvement in the “Barbenheimer” phenomenon. He previously starred in “Oppenheimer” as Lewis Strauss, a key figure in the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission, alongside Cillian Murphy as J. Robert Oppenheimer.
Simu Liu and Florence Pugh, who both acted with Robert Downey Jr. in Avengers: Doomsday, are also enjoying success with other major films. Liu had a supporting role in Barbie as one of the Kens, and Pugh co-starred with Downey in Oppenheimer, playing Jean Tatlock. Plus, Pugh will return as Princess Irulan in the upcoming Dune: Part Three, continuing her role from Dune: Part Two.
Avengers: Doomsday and the third Dune movie are both likely to be shown in IMAX and other high-quality cinema formats, meaning they’ll be competing for those screens.
Anthony and Joe Russo directed Avengers: Doomsday, working from a script by Michael Waldron and Stephen McFeely. The Russos also produced the film alongside Marvel Studios through their company, AGBO.
Denis Villeneuve is directing the third Dune movie, working from a script by Jon Spaihts. He’s also a producer on the film, alongside Mary Parent, Cale Boyter, and Tanya Lapointe.
