The Legend of Heroes: Trails beyond the Horizon is now available, PC blog post and launch trailer shared

Today, NIS America released The Legend of Heroes: Trails into the Horizon for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

NIS America and PH3 have released a detailed blog post on Steam outlining the features of the PC version, including how well it scales to different systems, a new anti-aliasing feature for the user interface, and other improvements. You can find the full details here. Below are some of the new features highlighted by Peter “Durante” Thoman:

New PC Features in Horizon

We’ve added a lot of features to this game, and we’re excited to introduce some brand new ones you haven’t seen before.

Transparent UI VFX Anti-Aliasing

We’ve always offered a lot of ways to smooth out graphics in the game, including multiple anti-aliasing options, a minimap setting for smoother lines, and a way to improve the clarity of portraits. However, one specific part of the game’s visuals wasn’t covered by these methods. It’s a bit technical to explain, but essentially, on top of everything else, we’ve added a new setting called “Transparent UI VFX Anti-Aliasing” to address this. This screenshot shows, in red, exactly what this setting affects.

Further Improved Scalability

We designed our games to run well on a variety of hardware, from the Steam Deck to powerful gaming PCs. Developing portable console versions pushed us to improve this even further, and we’ve added three new graphics settings to give you more control: Detail Draw Distance, Detail Density, and Fog Particles. The first two settings have the biggest impact on performance, while Fog Particles only affects a few areas of the game. Here’s a quick look at how these new settings (along with our existing draw distance and level of detail settings) affect performance when comparing the lowest and highest graphics presets:

I’m really focused on eliminating things appearing suddenly in the distance, so turning up all the settings that control how far you can see will noticeably slow down performance. It’s only worth doing if you’re very bothered by those distant objects ‘popping’ into view.

Just in case you missed them, I wanted to share links to some other stuff I’ve done on this game! You can check out my full review here, a deep dive into the PC version here, and my comparison of the console versions here. If you want to try the game out for yourself, there’s a Story Demo available on Steam here, PlayStation 4 and 5 here, and Nintendo eShop here. Plus, there’s a Battle Demo you can download on PlayStation 5 and 4 here!

The Legend of Heroes: Trails beyond the Horizon is now released on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam.

NIS America is excited to announce that The Legend of Heroes: Trails beyond the Horizon is now available on Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC (via Steam, Epic Games Store, and GOG). This release marks a special occasion – the 20th anniversary of the series – and means that players in the West can now experience all of the Trails games!

Van Arkride and his team at Arkride Solutions return in a story where the fate of the Zemurian continent hangs in the balance! As Zemuria eagerly anticipates the first-ever space launch, an unexpected invitation from Marduk to participate in advanced training throws Van, Rean Schwarzer, and Father Kevin Graham into a dangerous quest to uncover Zemuria’s deepest secrets.

Even though people follow different life journeys, they all share the same fundamental question: What’s out there beyond what we know?

  • All Trails Lead Here: Paths from across Zemuria intertwine with higher stakes than ever before as the Trails series enters its final chapter!
  • Gameplay, Evolved: New gameplay mechanics such as Shard Commands, Awakening, and the time-freezing Z.O.C. give you an unprecedented amount of options in both Field and Command Battles!
  • Dream Teams: Gather allies from all over Calvard and beyond and put a stop to Ouroboros’ machinations in the Grim Garten, a dungeon that you can take on with your own custom party!

A limited edition of The Legend of Heroes: Trails beyond the Horizon is now available exclusively at the NIS Online Store. This special edition includes the deluxe game for Nintendo Switch or Switch 2, an art book, an original mini soundtrack, a SteelBook case, and an acrylic clock shaped like the “Grim Timekeeper.” Everything comes packaged in a collectible box.
