Fans of the God of War video game series are enthusiastically supporting the choice of actor for the live-action Kratos in the upcoming Prime Video series. As news of the casting broke, social media filled with positive reactions to the actor taking on the role of the famous Spartan warrior.
God of War fans are loving Kratos’ live-action casting
Ryan Hurst has been chosen to play Kratos in the upcoming live-action God of War series on Prime Video. The show, a collaboration between Sony Pictures Television, Amazon MGM Studios, PlayStation Productions, and Tall Ship Productions, is based on the popular video game and has already been renewed for two seasons. Filming is set to begin in Vancouver.
Christopher Judge, who voiced Kratos in God of War Ragnarök, received a BAFTA nomination for his performance. Having worked on the God of War series before, he already understood the game’s style and stories. The show retells the events of the last two games, centering on Kratos and his son, Atreus, as they travel to scatter the ashes of their loved one, Faye.
The casting has been well-received on X, formerly known as Twitter. Fans expressed their enthusiasm online, with many praising the choice. Comments included, “Great casting!” and “Perfect match.” Others shared excitement, like one user who said, “I haven’t been this excited about a project in a long time!” and another who simply stated, “I like this!”
The upcoming series will be directed by Frederick E.O. Toye, the director behind popular shows like Shōgun, The Boys, and Fallout. Ronald D. Moore will oversee the series as showrunner, and will also write and executive produce. He’ll be joined by executive producers Maril Davis, Cory Barlog, Naren Shankar, Matthew Graham, Asad Qizilbash, Jeff Ketcham, Hermen Hulst, Roy Lee, and Brad Van Arragon. Joe Menosky, Marc Bernardin, Tania Lotia, and Ben McGinnis will serve as co-executive producers.
