Hey everyone, exciting news from the Hytale team! They just started a bug bounty program, which basically means they’ll reward us – the players – for finding and reporting any security issues or bugs we stumble across in the game. If we find something and they confirm it’s a real problem, we get rewarded! Pretty cool, right?
Even though Hytale is still being developed, its release has been incredibly popular. It quickly became the most-watched game on Twitch, and reports show it had almost 2.8 million people playing at the same time.
As with many games launching in early access, we’ve had a few bumps in the road. It’s normal to encounter bugs and technical problems at this point in development.
As a gamer, I’m really glad to see the developers are taking security seriously! They’ve launched a bounty program – basically, they’re offering over $25,000 to anyone who can find and report security flaws in the game. It’s awesome they’re proactively trying to keep our accounts and the game itself safe.
Hytale offers a “Bug Bounty Program” players can participate in
A developer announced details about the program on X, expressing gratitude to the security researchers collaborating with the studio.
We’re incredibly grateful to the security researchers who are collaborating with us on Hytale. Protecting our players and community is our main concern, and we’ve already rewarded researchers for their findings and are actively addressing reported issues. We offer bug bounties exceeding $25,000, depending on the impact of the vulnerability. We especially reward discoveries related to authentication and client/server exploits. We’ve already issued payouts and are actively addressing reported issues as they surface.
Players who find security issues in Hytale can report them directly to our security team. If the team confirms the issue qualifies for a reward, they’ll review it and let the reporter know how the fix is progressing.
Participation isn’t open to everyone. Hytale’s website states that only players 18 or older are allowed to take part, and they must use their personal account for all testing.
The developers have added some extra guidelines and recommend players read them before sending in a report.
The team previously stated that the product isn’t finished yet and users may encounter some issues.
We’ve only had two months to get Hytale back on track after reacquiring it – that’s how much work it’s taken to prepare the game and build a new team, as we explained in a recent blog post.
While launch week may be “bumpy,” the developers reassured players that they’ll “get everyone in.”
