Hytale Console Version Planned, But Developers Want To “Focus On Making A Good Game First”

Hytale, the popular block-building game, is now available for early access on PC. The developers, Hypixel, have announced plans to release it on consoles, but that won’t happen until the game is further along in development.

Hytale’s initial early access version will be available only on PC, according to Hytale executive director Patrick Derbic. Console versions are planned for the future. Right now, the game can only be played through its dedicated launcher, not on Steam.

According to Derbic, bringing Hytale to consoles would take significant effort to update the game’s underlying systems. The team prefers to prioritize finishing the game itself, so they aren’t currently dedicating resources to a console port.

Hytale offers powerful tools for creating modifications, but Steam doesn’t support all of these features. It’s currently unknown whether the game’s strong focus on modding will cause problems when—or if—it’s released on consoles.

This game, similar to Minecraft, had a long and difficult development process. After ten years, its original creator, Riot Games, stopped working on it. However, the project was picked up again a few months later, and its recent early access release has already proven popular on Twitch, drawing in a lot of viewers.
