2025’s 10/10 Horror Movie Sees Global Streaming Revival After Winning Major Awards

As awards season for 2026 gets underway, with Oscar nominations coming on January 22nd, the film Sinners is gaining popularity on streaming platforms. Many consider Ryan Coogler’s vampire horror film to be one of the best of 2025, and it’s a strong contender for the Best Picture Oscar.

The action horror movie Sinners was a big success when it first became available on HBO Max this summer, and it’s now back in the Top 10 movies globally, currently at No. 9, according to FlixPatrol. It’s competing for Best Picture with One Battle After Another, which is still the most popular movie on the platform.

The new movie Sinners is currently performing better at the box office than the 2025 hit Jurassic World Rebirth, which stars Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, and Mahershala Ali. Worldwide, Sinners is ahead of One Battle After Another but behind other 2025 releases like the live-action How to Train Your Dragon, Clown in a Cornfield, and Karate Kid: Legends.

At the Golden Globes, Sinners didn’t win the major awards, facing strong competition. Though One Battle After Another was nominated for Best Comedy or Musical, Hamnet ultimately won Best Drama. Sinners did receive recognition with an award for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement.

Paul Thomas Anderson won Best Director again, and unexpectedly also took home the award for Best Screenplay. The film Sinners won Best Score once more, and its star, Jordan, was nominated for Best Actor. While many consider Sinners to be among the three best films of the awards season, it’s expected to lose several Oscars to the other leading contenders.

Some experts believe the film Sinners could break the record for the most Oscar nominations ever received by a single movie. Its recent popularity on streaming services during awards season is likely boosting its chances and shows continued strong interest in the film.
