Even though Lego’s Kanto badges were originally given away for free with the purchase of a larger set, they’re now being resold online for about $200.
This badge set was a free gift given to customers who bought the large Lego Venusaur, Charizard, and Blastoise building set, which cost $649.99. It couldn’t be bought on its own.
However, complete sets of Kanto badges are now being listed for sale on websites like eBay, and several have already sold for between $180 and $250.
Free Lego promo instantly targeted by resellers
The Kanto badge set features Lego recreations of all eight Gym Badges from the original Pokemon Red & Blue video games, and they come in a special display case. Since it was a limited-time offer and only available as long as supplies lasted, it sold out quickly.
The Kanto Badge set is made up of 312 pieces and usually costs between $35 and $50.

Because the item was only available through pre-ordering a costly set, it’s no surprise that a resale market quickly developed, with some sellers asking for much more than fans originally thought the promotional item would cost.
As of today, Lego hasn’t said they’ll sell the Kanto badges individually. This means if you didn’t get them during the original promotion, or don’t want to pay over $600 for the full set, you’ll have to look for them on resale sites.
There’s a bit of good news, though. Lego does sell individual pieces to fans, but they don’t have every type of brick available. It’s hard to say if buying pieces directly from Lego would actually be cheaper than buying from resellers – you’d have to do the calculations to find out.
