Okay, so I’m trying to get back into my gaming schedule after the holidays, and it’s good to know my Switch 2 is running a little smoother thanks to a new update. Nintendo just dropped version 21.2.0, but honestly, it’s pretty minor – doesn’t really do a ton, but hey, stability is always welcome!
The update includes improvements to make the system more stable and provide a better user experience, according to the brief release notes.
Since it launched, the Switch 2 has received mostly minor updates designed to keep things running well. However, there have been some bigger improvements too. For example, a November update made the home menu clearer by showing whether games are owned as physical copies or digital downloads. This update also improved GameChat, helping to refine the overall Switch 2 experience.
The Switch 2 had a successful launch in June of last year, quickly breaking sales records. However, sales in the US dropped approximately 35% from November to December compared to the original Switch’s launch in 2017. In fact, November 2025 was the slowest month for video game hardware sales in the US in over 30 years, dating back to 1995.
Nintendo is still aiming to sell 19 million Switch 2 consoles by the end of March. They also plan to release a major update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons and a new Mario Tennis game in early 2026.
