Stardew Valley Mod Adds Voice Actors To The Game

When Eric Barone, the sole developer of Stardew Valley, first released the popular farming game in 2016, it didn’t include any spoken dialogue. However, a passionate fan has created a mod that adds voice acting to the game.

In 2024, Shannon Hobby, a voice actress and software engineer, initially shared a Stardew Valley voiceover mod as a test. This week, she expanded the mod to include voiced lines for all the characters you can romance in the game. Her goal is to give a voice to every character in Stardew Valley, and she’s continuing to work on it.

In a recent video, Hobby explained that she’s using her talents as both a voice actor and software engineer to create something special for a game she’s passionate about. She sees it as a great way to combine her skills, contribute to a project she cares deeply for, and give back to the game’s community.

Hobby clarified that she isn’t using AI to create the voices for the game. All the voice work is done by real people, and she’s personally paying them for their contributions. Here’s a list of the voice actors:

  • Ariel Michelle as Emily
  • Heidi Tabing as Penny
  • David Meyers as Sebastian
  • Kemi Haydee Stanton as Haley
  • Aiden Dawn as Leah
  • Eamon Kinsman as Alex
  • Jacob Hopkins as Sam
  • GM Hakim as Harvey
  • Nia Celeste as Maru
  • Emmanuel “Menji” Menjivar as Elliott
  • Diana Jurand as Abigail
  • Jonathan David Bullock as Shane

Victoria Cheng helped with the audio editing. The creator, Hobby, also mentions the mod still has a few bugs, specifically that some sound effects don’t always play correctly.

Stardew Valley was recently released on the Switch 2, and the game’s creator, Barone, announced a major update (version 1.7) that will add a new farm type and other improvements. While there’s no confirmed release date yet, Barone has said the update will take a significant amount of time to finish.
