1408 Amazon-Exclusive 4K Steelbook Edition Releases This Week

Okay, fellow horror fans, get ready! Stephen King’s 1408 is finally hitting 4K Blu-ray for the first time, and I’m super excited. I just heard it’s coming out January 13th, exclusively on Amazon for $40. It’s a three-disc set with both the regular and extended cuts of the movie, but the best part? It comes in a limited edition Steelbook case with some seriously cool original artwork. Honestly, it’s one of the nicest looking Stephen King 4K releases I’ve seen – a must-have for collectors!

The movie 1408 is based on a short story by Stephen King from 1999. It centers on Mike Enslin, an author dealing with personal loss who travels to investigate supposedly haunted locations. His latest case leads him to the infamous room 1408 at The Dolphin hotel in New York City. The film was a commercial success and boasts strong acting from John Cusack and Samuel L. Jackson.

Amazon has the Director’s Cut of 1408 on standard Blu-ray for $9.24 (was $15) and on DVD for $5.63.

Stephen King first published the story ‘1408’ as part of the audiobook collection ‘Blood and Smoke,’ which he narrated himself. While ‘Blood and Smoke’ was never released as a physical book, ‘1408’ later appeared in two print collections: ‘Everything’s Eventual’ and ‘Stephen King Goes to the Movies.’ ‘Everything’s Eventual,’ published in 2002, features ‘1408’ along with thirteen other stories, including popular titles like ‘Riding the Bullet,’ ‘The Man in the Black Suit,’ ‘The Road Virus Heads North,’ and ‘L.T.’s Theory of Pets.’ The paperback edition of ‘Everything’s Eventual’ is currently available for $15.18, reduced from its original price of $20.

Okay, so I was digging around for some Stephen King stuff and found this collection called ‘Stephen King Goes to the Movies’ from 2009. It’s got five stories – ‘1408,’ ‘Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption,’ ‘Low Men in Yellow Coats’ (which is part of ‘Hearts in Atlantis’), ‘The Mangler,’ and ‘Children of the Corn’ – that were all made into movies. It looks like it’s hard to find new in the US, but I noticed Amazon UK has the paperback for around $20 if you’re interested.

Stephen King Movies & TV on 4K Blu-ray

Over the past year, Amazon has become a go-to place for exclusive 4K steelbook releases, including several films based on the works of Stephen King – not just the movie 1408. For example, Shout Factory’s limited edition steelbook of ‘The Dead Zone’ came out last June and is currently on sale for $32 (originally $45). In November, ‘The Long Walk’ limited edition steelbook was released only on Amazon for $35. Interestingly, a regular version of ‘The Long Walk’ came out in December, but it costs more – $43 – than the steelbook edition.

Good news for Stephen King fans! Several of his works are coming to 4K Blu-ray soon. Arrow Video will release a restored 4K version of the 1979 miniseries Salem’s Lot on March 31st, and you can currently pre-order the Salem’s Lot Limited Edition at Amazon for a discounted price of $44.73 (originally $60). It: Welcome to Derry will be available on 4K, 1080p, and DVD on May 5th, though the 4K Steelbook edition is already sold out.

The new version of The Running Man, released in 2025, arrives on 4K Blu-ray on March 3rd, with three different editions available. Walmart will have an exclusive bundle featuring both the 2025 remake and the original 1987 film, each in its own steelbook case. You can pre-order this 2-Movie Steelbook Collection for $60 – just $10 more than the price of the 2025 steelbook edition sold separately.
