One Battle After Another Is Winning the War

The film One Battle After Another just strengthened its position as a major awards contender. It won the Golden Globe for Best Musical or Comedy Film tonight, making it a fantastic week for the movie. In total, it took home four Globes, including awards for Best Director, Best Screenplay, and Best Supporting Actress, with Teyana Taylor taking the latter prize. If it wasn’t considered the favorite to win Best Picture at the Oscars before, it certainly is now.

Producer Sara Murphy described the filmmaking process as “one of the most incredible experiences of my life” while accepting the award. She dedicated it to the late Adam Somner, saying they missed him dearly. Murphy also expressed gratitude to Mike, Pam, and David for their early support of the film, and praised the abundance of original films released this year, calling it “a feast for us all.”

This film continues to demonstrate its strength this awards season. It recently broke the record for the most Actor Award nominations ever, receiving seven. It’s also already won Best Picture from the Critics Choice Awards and has earned nominations from both the Producers Guild and the Directors Guild. Every time the film has had the opportunity to win or be nominated for a top prize, it has succeeded. Now, Oscar nominations voting starts tomorrow, January 12th, and runs through Friday, with the nominees being announced on January 22nd. We’ll soon find out how much success this film can ultimately achieve.
