A Chinese restaurant owner in Mexico is getting a lot of attention online after responding to a customer who left a negative review. The owner felt the customer was demanding and unreasonable.
These days, restaurants are under constant scrutiny with so many ways for people to share their opinions online. From TikTok videos and Instagram posts to reviews on platforms like Google and X, diners are quick to share their experiences.
Wang Tulum, a Chinese restaurant in Tulum, Mexico, received a three-star Google review from a customer named Anvita Kotha who wasn’t completely satisfied. She specifically mentioned that the food wasn’t spicy enough.
Kotha told us they ordered the dan dan noodles and the chili oil dumplings, but were disappointed. While the food wasn’t bad, it simply wasn’t spicy enough for their taste, even after requesting extra chili oil and adding salt. They said it just wasn’t what they were hoping for.

Chinese restaurant blasts reviewer over lack of spice claim
The restaurant owner was clearly upset by a review posted online and responded with a reply of their own.
Someone expressed surprise that the chili oil was expected to be spicy, and then suggested tailoring the food to a visiting “Google guide” named Anvita. Another person responded, pointing out that restaurants should prioritize the owners’ preferences and not just cater to individual customer requests.
We never intended to customize our food to please anyone who feels entitled. If you’re unhappy, feel free to open your own restaurant. Please consider your words before leaving a review and understand that no business is obligated to cater to individual preferences. Perhaps if you ran a restaurant, you’d understand the challenges involved, and we could all see what your food is like.

Ever since Wang Tulum’s statement, people have been playfully teasing him on social media. One commenter joked, “So the chili oil wasn’t even spicy?”
The restaurant explained that all dishes can be made without spice, with the exception of the dumplings, which are always served with red chili oil.
