Grok AI images only available to X users who pay after deepfake backlash

Grok AI is facing criticism because people were using it to create realistic but fake images – known as deepfakes – of others on X, often without their permission. As a result, significant limitations have now been put in place.

Grok AI is X’s built-in AI assistant. Users can mention Grok in the comments of posts to ask for explanations, get answers to follow-up questions, or even request it to generate images or videos based on what they tell it.

After many users requested Grok to create inappropriate and non-consensual deepfakes from online images, there was significant public criticism. As a result, access to the AI tool on the social media platform has now been limited to a small group of users.

Grok AI now only available to paid X users

Okay, so after all the complaints, it looks like if you don’t pay for X Premium, you’re gonna get a message when you try to have Grok edit pictures. It basically says image editing is only for paying members now. Pretty simple, really – if you want Grok to mess with your pics, you gotta subscribe!

If you don’t have a premium subscription, you won’t be able to use Grok AI to create or modify images.

This reaction follows significant public criticism, and even UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer promised to address the issue, describing the chatbot’s behavior as “disgusting” during a radio interview.

Starmer stated that X needs to improve and deliver this material, and that action will be taken if they don’t, as the current situation is unacceptable.

Even though there’s this limitation, users can still ask the chatbot questions and use it for other tasks. However, it can no longer be used to create or modify images.
