Get ready for Mario Tennis Fever, a brand new game coming soon to the Switch 2! It’s been six years since the last Mario Tennis game, Mario Tennis Aces, and this one promises a fresh gameplay experience, a new story mode, and plenty more for players to enjoy. Nintendo is bringing the fun of tennis back to the Switch 2, and we’re excited to share all the details!
Mario Tennis Fever Release Date – February 12th, 2026
Mario Tennis Fever will be released on February 12th, 2026. You can pre-order the game now, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2, for $69.99.
Mario Tennis Fever is a tennis game starring characters from the Super Mario universe. It’s actually the tenth tennis game Nintendo has made featuring Mario! The very first, simply called “Tennis,” came out in 1985. While you didn’t play as Mario in that original game, he did make an appearance as the umpire.
Since the original game, there have been nine more Mario Tennis titles, beginning with Mario’s Tennis on the Virtual Boy. Mario has appeared on the court in various tennis games, from the Nintendo 64 version to the most recent, Mario Tennis Aces.
Mario Tennis Fever Gameplay
Tennis Fever plays much like Mario Tennis Aces, offering a familiar experience. It features a record-breaking roster of 38 playable characters and a diverse selection of courses and game modes.
This game combines tennis and Mario elements, letting you use classic tennis moves like topspin and lobs to surprise your opponent. But, because it’s a Mario game, expect some extra, over-the-top surprises!
Okay, so the coolest new thing in this game is definitely the Fever Rackets! There are 30 of them, and each one is totally different, with its own special power. Basically, you play and fill up this Fever Gauge, and then you can unleash the unique ability of the racket you’re using. It really changes up the gameplay!
Some of the new Fever Racket Abilities include:
- Ice Racket – Transforms part of the court into a slippery area
- Mini Mushroom Racket – Shrinks opponent
- Shadow Racket – Create a duplicate of your character
- Fire Racket – Creates a Fire puddle that damages players who step on it
The game features various Fever Rackets, each offering benefits in any game mode. Plus, if you successfully deflect a Fever Shot back at your opponent, they’ll experience the negative effects instead of you.
Speaking of modes, Tennis Fever introduces some new and returning modes:
Trial Tower challenges players to ascend a tower by completing a series of tests. These tests are designed to evaluate and reinforce the skills you’ve developed throughout the game.
In the new Mix It Up mode, you play matches with unconventional rules. These include things like:
- Ring Shot – Hit Balls through rings to earn points
- Forest Court – Expand the court by feeding Piranha Plants with tennis balls
- Wonder Court – Adds Wonder Effects from Super Mario Bros. Wonder
In Wonder, the Talking Flowers are back as commentators for Tournament Mode! If you like playing with others, check out the Online Room where you can create custom matches or compete in ranked games.
As a big fan, I’m really excited about how you can use the Joy-Con controllers like swings to get different shots in the game! And that’s on top of the completely new story mode they’re adding, which is awesome!
Mario Tennis Fever Story
Mario Tennis Fever will include a story mode called Adventure, which is designed to help players learn how to play the game. The story begins when Mario, Luigi, Wario, Waluigi, and Peach are magically turned into babies by a mysterious creature. As they progress through the adventure, players learn tennis skills alongside these baby versions of iconic characters.
This adventure is designed to be both fun and educational. You’ll get to explore a Tennis academy, complete various challenges to help our heroes regain their peak condition, and even battle bosses – all with the option to team up with friends! Plus, powerful Fever Shots will give you an edge as you progress.
We’ll learn more about the story when the game is released, and we’re excited to do so.
That covers all the important details about the Mario Tennis Fever release date. We’re excited to play this new Mario sports game when it comes out in February, and we’ll see you on the court!
