One Of The Only Switch Streaming Apps Is Going Away Soon

The Nintendo Switch doesn’t have many video streaming options, and it’s about to lose another one. Nintendo has announced that the Hulu app is no longer available on the Switch eShop, likely due to changes happening with the Hulu service and its parent company, Disney.

Nintendo will no longer support the Hulu app on its Switch console after February 5th. The app first became available in November 2017, shortly after the Switch was released. Hulu won’t be available on the new Nintendo Switch 2, and Nintendo never created a version of the app for it.

Disney announced last year that it’s combining Hulu and Disney+ into one app. While you’ll still be able to subscribe to Hulu or Disney+ separately, if you want to watch Hulu shows and movies, you’ll need to use the Disney+ app once the change happens later this year.

This is frustrating for Nintendo Switch users, as Disney+ has never been offered on any Nintendo console, including the upcoming Switch 2. Disney+ isn’t the only streaming service missing – Netflix, Amazon Prime Video (which was available on Wii U), and HBO Max are also unavailable on Switch.

Switch owners who like to stream movies and shows are likely disappointed. Currently, the only streaming apps available on the original Switch are YouTube and Crunchyroll, but neither of those work on the new Switch model. A Twitch app used to be available, but it was removed in 2023.

As a Nintendo gamer, I know a lot of us like to watch streams and videos, and thankfully, we can still do that on our smart TVs – or even on other consoles if we have them!
