New screenshots for Dragon Quest VII Reimagined detail characters, visuals, combat, vocations, DLC, and more

After being revealed at last week’s Nintendo Direct, Square Enix has released more details and images for Dragon Quest VII Reimagined, including information about the characters, how the game looks, battles, character classes, downloadable content, and other features.

Dragon Quest VII Reimagined will be available on February 5, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam.

Get ready for *Dragon Quest VII Reimagined*, launching worldwide on February 5, 2026! This is a beautiful remake of the classic *Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past*, originally released in 2000. The story begins with a group of friends on a peaceful island, and their innocent curiosity quickly leads them into a huge adventure through time. They’ll face dark forces and discover the secrets of their world. Along with the main game, there will be extra downloadable content to improve your experience, and a special Collector’s Edition packed with goodies. Visuals

The characters, originally designed by the famous manga artist Akira Toriyama, now look like adorable, handmade 3D figurines. The game’s environments and dungeons are also created with this same loving, detailed, diorama-like style, bringing the world of Dragon Quest to life in a beautiful way.

Story and Features

What begins as youthful curiosity soon unfolds into an epic adventure to save the world…

On the quiet island of Estard, a curious young hero and their close friend find pieces of an old tablet. Placing these pieces into a shrine’s pedestal, they’re magically transported to a strange new world. As they find more tablets, the world around them expands. What starts as a search for understanding quickly becomes a much bigger adventure, revealing dangerous enemies and the surprising truth about their home.

Characters

The central group of heroes all come from Estard Island, a place surrounded by a huge ocean. As they journey between different worlds, they’ll meet a diverse cast of characters, and some of these people will join them on their adventure.

Protagonist (The Player)

Voiced by: Isaac Rouse

He was a young boy growing up in Pilchard Bay, a quiet fishing village on Estard Island. While he enjoyed a simple life helping his father, he frequently dreamed of the world beyond the ocean.

Kiefer

Voiced by: Roly Botha

The prince of Estard comes from a family that has ruled the island for generations. He’s naturally curious and takes initiative, often joining the main character on adventures to explore the island’s secrets.

Maribel

Voiced by: Becky Wright

Despite her tendency to be a bit selfish, she’s actually a kindhearted person. That’s why she’s determined to join her childhood friends – the main character and Kiefer – on their upcoming adventure and won’t be left behind.

Ruff

Voiced by: Clare Corbett

This boy is kind and innocent, and he’s rarely seen without his wolf companion. He can be a bit naive at times, but he also has strong, natural instincts like an animal.

Aishe

Voiced by: Amrita Acharia

This young woman, a Roamer deeply connected to the Earth Spirit, is on a mission to revive the Almighty. She’s a talented sword fighter and a naturally gifted dancer.

Sir Mervyn

Voiced by: Nicholas Boulton

Once a celebrated hero who battled the Demon King with his god, he remains a master swordsman. He’s a member of the Holy Order of the Almighty and still wields the skills that made him legendary.

Battle

Dragon Quest VII Reimagined features a revamped battle system. Both your characters’ skills and the monsters you fight have been updated, leading to more exciting and engaging combat.

Snatch victory from the jaws of defeat with unique vocational perks!

Every job class has a special ability that characters can unleash in battle when they reach a certain level of intensity. These abilities are very strong and can quickly change the course of a fight when you need them most.

DLC

Alongside the main game, we’re launching three optional DLC packs! These include a set of items to help you get started, a unique costume, and extra challenging battles against some well-known and powerful enemies.
