Red Dead Redemption 2 fans have uncovered a big mystery called the ‘Spider Dream Mystery,’ and they’re working hard to figure it out before the release of Grand Theft Auto 6.
Red Dead Redemption 2, originally launched in 2018, is known for its many side quests, collectibles, and hidden treasures. Recently, players have been amazed by a brand new, complex puzzle discovered within the game.
Players recently discovered a hidden message in a game, seven years after its release. The clue? Spider webs that only appear at specific times of day.
The Red Dead Redemption 2 community is now working together to try and finally solve this long-standing mystery, which has puzzled players for nearly ten years.
What is the Spider Dream Mystery in RDR2?
The trail begins by a telephone pole close to Cornwall Kerosene & Tar, and it’s marked with a spider carving. A unique web, decorated with a feather, appears at the top of the pole, but only for a short time. The spider carving indicates the direction to seven more webs, all created in a similar way.
These spiderwebs are only visible late at night, typically between 2 and 3 AM or 3 and 4 AM, and disappear during other hours. The spider itself creates a different, larger web that appears even earlier, around 1–2 AM. Unlike the others, this web isn’t made of feathers; instead, it’s shaped like the letter ‘N’ and runs along a telephone pole.
Players then moved directly north from the central web area to a telephone pole they could shoot. Once the wood was cleared away, an inscription of the letter “W” and five more telephone poles were revealed.
Once players shifted five poles to the west, they discovered another pole they could shoot. When hit, this pole displayed a new message: “NW” along with what looks like a guitar symbol.
That’s where the mystery currently stops. Going northwest will take you to a guitar in Fort Wallace, but it doesn’t seem to do anything when you try to use it. The path also leads to Spider Gorge, but we haven’t found any new clues there yet.
The game’s code refers to these feathers as “spiderdream,” which is why the mystery is named that.
Players are currently attempting to shoot feathers in a specific sequence and searching the map for additional hints, but as of now, the community hasn’t discovered anything new.
Strange Man, a popular Red Dead Redemption 2 content creator, has been tracking the discoveries related to this mystery and is encouraging the community to figure it out before the release of Grand Theft Auto 6 in November 2026.
The main issue with pursuing this idea is that these clues might simply be leftover, unused content from the game, meaning they don’t actually lead anywhere.
Rockstar rarely discusses fan investigations, so it might be a while before we get any official answers. However, if this content was originally planned for the game, the developers could potentially include it in a future update or when a next-generation version of Red Dead Redemption 2 is released.
