Who is Flossie the cat? Record holding feline turns 30 years old

Flossie, a tortoiseshell cat from the UK, is officially the oldest living cat according to Guinness World Records. Born on December 29, 1995, she celebrated her 30th birthday in 2025.

I was so thrilled to hear that Guinness World Records officially verified Flossie’s age back in November 2022! She was confirmed to be 26 years and 316 days old, which is incredible! That makes her one of the oldest cats ever recorded – basically, she was around 120 in human years, which is just amazing to me.

How Flossie became the world’s oldest living cat

Flossie started life as a stray kitten, found near St Helens Hospital in Merseyside, England. She had a few different owners over the years before finding her way to Cats Protection, a UK animal charity.

In 2022, Cats Protection found Flossie a new home with Victoria Green in Orpington, England. They worked with vets to confirm Flossie’s age, which allowed Guinness World Records to officially recognize her as the oldest cat.

Flossie, believed to be the oldest living cat in the world, celebrated her 30th birthday today. Even at this age, she maintains a daily routine of waking up early for breakfast, followed by naps and playtime.

When Flossie was officially recognized by Guinness World Records, they mentioned she was deaf and had poor eyesight, but was generally healthy. She enjoyed a normal daily life, including eating, sleeping, and playtime.

Flossie is currently the world’s oldest living cat, and is also among the seven oldest cats ever verified.

Although some cats have lived to be older in the past, Flossie is currently the oldest living cat with a confirmed age. She celebrated her 30th birthday on December 29th, solidifying her record as the longest-living cat currently recognized by Guinness World Records.
