Matt Reeves is famous for his excellent take on the classic The Batman in 2022, but science fiction lovers should also check out his Prime Video series, Tales from the Loop. This thought-provoking show explores the amazing possibilities of science and is a hidden gem that more people should see.
Even though The Batman 2 is coming out much sooner, the existing eight episodes of Tales from the Loop are still a wonderful collection of visually stunning and imaginative science fiction. Director Matt Reeves helped develop the series from the start, working closely with creator and writer Nathaniel Halpern.
I think a lot of people, like me, probably missed out on this Prime Video sci-fi show when it first came out in 2020 – it didn’t get a ton of buzz. But honestly, now is the perfect time to check it out! Retrofuturistic sci-fi is everywhere right now, both in movies and on TV, and this show really fits right in.
Matt Reeves Is One Of The Producers Of Tales From The Loop
The sci-fi series Tales from the Loop is a stunning achievement, created by Nathaniel Halpern and brought to life with the help of producers like Mark Romanek, the director of Never Let Me Go. Inspired by the artwork and stories of Simon Stålenhag, the show is set in a small town in Ohio that houses a cutting-edge physics research facility.
The show’s stunning visual effects, which bring futuristic elements like robots and time travel to life in a realistic and relatable way, clearly reflect the style of director J.J. Abrams. This approach is similar to his work on films like Planet of the Apes and Cloverfield. Ultimately, the show is a moving drama that explores both the scientific aspects of its story and the human condition.
Tales From The Loop Is An Incredibly Underrated Sci-Fi Show
Despite flying under the radar, Tales from the Loop on Prime Video is a deeply moving show, rivaling the platform’s best. It tackles big questions at the heart of science fiction while beautifully showcasing the wonders of technology, much like the inspiring artwork that influenced it.
Like many science fiction stories, Tales from the Loop explores the contrast between technology and the natural world. However, it does so with a gentle touch, suggesting that these two forces can actually coexist peacefully. Ultimately, the show implies that people are the key to finding balance between progress and nature.
Why Tales From The Loop Season 2 Hasn’t Happened Yet
Although the first season of Tales from the Loop was exceptionally well-made, a second season hasn’t arrived after nearly six years, and it appears unlikely to happen. Prime Video canceled the show shortly after its release because not enough people watched it.
Tales from the Loop is a fantastic show that could gain a dedicated fanbase over time, potentially leading to a second season. As it stands, it’s a surprisingly overlooked eight-episode series on Prime Video and, arguably, one of the best projects Matt Reeves has worked on.
