Okay, so in Battlefield 6, they’ve really upped the destruction. It’s the classic Battlefield experience – you can blast holes in walls, collapse roofs on enemies, and even drive a tank *through* buildings. It’s seriously chaotic and awesome!
As you may have seen in the beta test, you can destroy quite a bit, but not absolutely everything. Certain structures on the map can’t be damaged. The developers have explained that while they initially thought a completely flattened map wouldn’t be enjoyable, they’ve shared more details about why some things remain indestructible.
After a gameplay demonstration with TopMob, the developers held a Q&A session and explained why players can’t destroy key parts of the game’s maps.
Why you can’t flatten Battlefield 6’s maps
Battlefield 6 is bringing back the popular Operation Firestorm map, and we got an early preview before its release on October 10th. Players noticed that the smokestacks aren’t destructible, so they asked the developers if they planned to add more environmental destruction features.
“It’s not ready to be released yet,” explained design director Shashank Uchil. “We need to ensure players can still easily recognize key landmarks in the game world to help them get their bearings.”
Community manager Kevin ‘T0TALfps’ Johnson added that each map has a unique feel and recognizable landmarks. He explained that buildings are designed to withstand a lot of damage so players can easily find their way around, which would be much harder if those landmarks were heavily destroyed.

Besides making the map enjoyable, the designers included familiar landmarks so players can easily find their way around and keep track of their location.
Claire Bromley, a map producer, also discussed improvements made to Firestorm. She said the team focused on enhancing the map’s destruction and explosion effects.
She explained that, in addition to a button that activates a flamethrower to eliminate snipers on the main chimney, all the silos and gas tanks on the map will explode, causing widespread destruction. The level will also feature enhanced destructibility, particularly for buildings.
When the game releases, you’ll get to play Operation Firestorm and all the other maps, and you’ll have access to every weapon available.
