Cantarella: Dominion of Qualia launches for PC via Steam in 2026

Mediascape has announced a new dungeon crawler RPG called Cantarella: Dominion of Qualia and created a Steam page for it. Although a release date isn’t listed on Steam yet, a press release in Japan indicates the game is planned for release in 2026.

The new game is led by Shoichiro “Jun.A” Sakamoto, a musician who also creates music as part of the Sound Sepher group. It’s a dungeon RPG with roguelike features – even if you lose, your characters will keep their improved stats, skills, and abilities. Plus, each character you recruit will have randomly generated stats.

Cantarella: Dominion of Qualia boasts a huge cast of characters and staff. Players will be able to recruit over 170 unique characters, brought to life by more than 40 different artists, including renowned names like Yuji Himukai, Shigatake, ReDrop, HACCAN, and CARNELIAN. Youka serves as the lead illustrator. The game’s soundtrack is equally impressive, featuring contributions from over 10 composers, such as Kenji Ito, Motoi Sakuraba, Hiroki Kikuta, and Shoji Meguro.

Game Overview

This RPG is set in a bleak, post-apocalyptic world steeped in dark occult themes. You’ll progress by absorbing the life force of others, making difficult decisions and sacrifices, and ultimately attempting to reach the top of a mysterious tower.

A devastating event called “Megalomachia” destroyed the world, leaving only one place where humans can still survive: a massive structure known simply as the Tower.

Inside, Arka wakes up with no memory of who she is or where she came from. She’s led – and secretly controlled – by the mysterious twins, Alice and Teles. They force her to participate in a terrifying, never-ending game called “The Killing Hour.”

The Tower is divided into eight corrupted zones known as Dominion of Qualia (D.O.Q).

These lands are overrun with insanity and monstrous creatures, and each is controlled by one of the powerful Eight Delusions.

Overcome every challenge, vanquish the Eight Delusions, and finally defeat the False Princess, Malizia, who rules at the top—all to change the Tower’s destiny.

You can overcome the strange creatures inside the Tower and even turn them into allies. The game boasts a massive roster of playable characters – over 170 in total!

Every ally you meet has unique abilities and skills, created randomly. This means every time you play, you’ll get a different team with new combinations of strengths.

◆ The EX System: Existence Is a Resource

Every creature we’ve captured has an Existence score, which tells us how much of its original self is still present.

  • EX decreases by 1 each time HP reaches zero

  • When EX reaches zero, that character is permanently lost

  • EX can be restored by devouring other allies

  • Devoured allies grant skills, experience, and level-ups

To survive in the Tower, you must consume. Those unable to take what they need will not last, and if they don’t last, they won’t exist.

You are constantly forced to choose:
Who will you save, and who will you consume?
