Fans of zombie games are in for a treat! The upcoming DLC for World War Z will feature characters and storylines from The Walking Dead. Players will get to play as four famous faces from the show – Rick Grimes, Daryl Dixon, Negan, and Michonne – with actors Andrew Lincoln and Norman Reedus returning to voice Rick and Daryl. The first preview of this crossover will feel instantly recognizable to anyone familiar with either franchise.
This new story campaign revisits iconic locations from The Walking Dead, like Grady Memorial Hospital, the Prison, and Alexandria. However, instead of the typical slow-moving walkers, you’ll face a new, fast-moving enemy inspired by the swarms from World War Z – known as Zeke.
Spiked Walkers are a new type of Zeke zombie. They can’t be harmed by close-range attacks unless they’re first knocked down. But you have to act fast – once they get back up, they become immune to damage again.
The trailer shows that each character still has their iconic weapons: Michonne wields her katanas, Daryl uses his crossbow, and Negan has his barbed wire bat, “Lucille,” which he’s used against both the living and the dead. Rick carries a revolver, but everyone is prepared to use bigger guns when necessary – and they will.
The new DLC combining World War Z and The Walking Dead will be available in January 2026 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.
