LinusTechTips is asking YouTube to fix its collaboration feature. Fans have been complaining that videos they didn’t ask to see are showing up in their subscriptions.
Linus addressed feedback from viewers who were puzzled or annoyed to find a podcast episode in their YouTube feeds, explaining it was due to YouTube’s collaboration feature.
This feature allows creators to share videos that appear in the subscriber feeds of channels they’ve partnered with, even if people haven’t subscribed to the original creator’s channel.
Some viewers were surprised by how the episode turned out, and others wondered why they were still seeing content from creators they had blocked, especially when those creators worked with others.
Viewer criticism over blocked creators
Linus shared feedback from a viewer who dislikes the collaboration feature, explaining it shows videos from channels they haven’t chosen to follow. The viewer pointed out that even after blocking specific creators in the past, videos from those channels still appeared because of these collaborations.
A viewer complained that YouTube sometimes shows content from channels people have blocked, and believes it should never happen. They feel YouTube isn’t respecting users who block channels.
He explained that this was the issue he most agreed with, saying it was understandable that people want complete control over what they see in their news feed.
Linus clarified that YouTube’s current system makes it hard for creators to get videos seen, even with direct promotion. He explained that things like community posts don’t always show up for subscribers unless the video quickly gains traction.
He explained that the site’s collaboration tool helps creators regain some lost reach by letting them share audiences with each other, something the platform’s algorithm now limits.
Linus ended the discussion by emphasizing that people using YouTube should be able to decide what they see in their feeds. This includes options to hide partnered content and completely block channels they don’t want to watch. He urged YouTube to update its system to honor those blocks and respect what users have already subscribed to.
The content creator also criticized YouTube in October, urging them to improve their membership feature, which they said made the platform difficult to use.
