Dark fantasy tactical roguelite RPG Blightstone releases for Steam Early Access on January 20, 2026

Unfinished Pixel, an independent game studio, announced that their game, Blightstone, will be available on Steam Early Access starting January 20th. It will cost $15.99 (or €12.99), and there will be a 20% discount for the first two weeks after release.

This dark fantasy game, first revealed in November 2024, combines strategic squad combat with the challenging, replayable nature of roguelike games. Unlike some strategy games, it doesn’t use a grid system for movement.

You control a group of heroes connected to a powerful, living crystal. As a dark corruption spreads across the land, each attempt to survive is a desperate fight against overwhelming odds. You’ll need to earn new abilities and equipment to overcome constantly changing battlefields filled with fire, ice, and lightning. A single perfect play can save everything, but one mistake can end it all. Simply being strong isn’t enough – you must master your skills, adapt to the challenges, and bravely confront the growing darkness.

Blightstone combines thoughtful strategy with the challenging, replayable nature of roguelike games. Your goal is to safeguard the Earthglass Crystal and bring it to the Infernal Rift. This is the only way to defeat the demon lord Korghul and break the Blightstone.

Keep trying, even if you fail repeatedly. Intelligence and cleverness are crucial to saving the kingdom, though even a little bit of smart thinking will help.

Make the most of your surroundings! Use objects, enemies, and even the weather to your benefit – they all offer strategic possibilities and obstacles. Don’t be discouraged by setbacks; each failure is a chance to learn and gain new abilities for your next attempt.

A Dynamic Battlefield

Move freely around the environment and take cover strategically – you’re not limited to moving on a grid. But keep in mind, your enemies aren’t either, so always be aware of your surroundings and potential flanking maneuvers.

You have complete control over the environment! Use it to your advantage: conceal yourself in tall grass, or set it ablaze to deny cover to your enemies. Lure opponents into water to boost the power of your electric attacks. Exploit everything around you to destroy the Blightstone.

Use the weather to your benefit! Changing weather conditions will affect how you play as an Adventurer. For example, thick fog will hide parts of the battlefield, rain will make electric attacks more powerful, and strong winds will make it harder to aim accurately. Paying attention to the weather can give you an edge, both good and bad.

Recruit your heroes

Discover new heroes and allies to join you on your adventure! You can choose from five classes – Brawler, Hunter, Arcanist, Druid, and Priest – each offering distinct skills and companions.

Learn a ton of abilities: Equip your team of adventurers – and the Earthglass crystal – with a huge variety of combat skills, both active and passive. Master close-up, long-range, area attacks, and grappling techniques, then combine them to create powerful combos.

Lots of things can happen during a fight – like bleeding, poison, being trapped, stunned, or burned. These effects can quickly change who’s winning, but don’t expect them to always work in your favor!
