Pathea Games, the creators of the My Time at series, revealed that their new open-world RPG, The God Slayer, a steampunk fantasy adventure, will be released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
I’ve been keeping an eye on The God Slayer since it was first announced last year as part of Sony’s PlayStation China Hero Project. It looks awesome – a huge, open-world RPG with this really cool Eastern-inspired steampunk city. They’re saying the main story will take around 40 hours to finish, which is a good chunk of playtime! Pathea Games, creators of the popular My Time series, is excited to announce their next project: ‘The God Slayer’. This new game is a third-person, open-world RPG with a steampunk fantasy setting, and it’s being developed for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox.
Step into a stunning steampunk city inspired by the East, ruled by powerful gods called Celestials! In this expansive RPG, you play as an Elemancer who dares to defy those who created you. Harnessing incredible elemental powers and driven by a thirst for revenge, you’ll challenge and overthrow the Celestials, becoming known as The God Slayer.
In the distant past, god-like beings called Celestials created the world and all life, intending for everything to generate a powerful energy called ‘Qi’ to sustain their immortal lives. Now, humans have learned to harness this Qi, developing elemental powers – controlling fire, water, earth, metal, and wood through martial arts. Enraged that mortals are using their divine energy, the Celestials swiftly conquered the most powerful kingdom, executing the king and its elemental masters in a single night. This devastating event became known as the God Fall.
This 40-hour campaign lets you play as Cheng, a powerful Elemancer, who is building a rebellion against the cruel Celestials. Driven by grief and rage over the loss of his family during a cataclysmic event, Cheng sets out on a quest to transform his world, honor those who have fallen, and defeat the gods who have harmed him.
Okay, so Pathea, the team behind games like My Time at Portia, is doing something totally different with their new game, The God Slayer. I heard from Zifei Wu, the founder, that while their previous games were more cozy, they actually have a lot of experience making open-world RPGs with cool characters and lots to do. They’re taking everything they’ve learned and going for a much darker, more serious vibe this time around, and the combat is supposed to be super exciting, built around using different elements. It sounds like they’re really pushing themselves with this one!
The God Slayer is a role-playing game with a more mature feel than Pathea’s earlier titles. It offers the open-ended gameplay players enjoy, along with a deep combat system based on elemental powers. You can explore a massive city called Zhou, choose to ally with or antagonize different groups, and complete missions in a variety of ways, making meaningful choices that impact how things unfold.
This highly anticipated game was originally revealed at ChinaJoy in 2023 as part of Sony’s ‘China Hero Project’. Since then, Pathea Games has been working hard to build a detailed and captivating open-world experience focused on storytelling.
