Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Players, Be Sure To Do This Before Entering Endgame

One of the best parts of playing a Metroid or Metroidvania game is completing it 100%. However, a problem in Metroid Prime 4: Beyond can prevent players from achieving full completion. The game does warn you before you reach a point of no return, but it’s still possible to make a choice you’ll regret. That’s why Steve Watts, who reviewed the game for TopMob, recommends backing up your save file to a different slot before starting the final sections of the game.

In his review of Metroid Prime 4, Watts criticized a frustrating design choice by Nintendo and Retro Studios. He explained that when he reached the endgame, he expected to be able to load a previous save file to finish any remaining exploration and collect missed upgrades. However, the game’s auto-save unexpectedly locked him into the final area, and his most recent manual save was overwritten, forcing him to start a new game. He described the situation as a confusing and unwelcome limitation.

The game’s main menu lets you create a backup save file. If you want to finish the story but still be able to explore later, be sure to either make a copy of your current save or avoid saving over it when you complete a mission. Hopefully, Nintendo and Retro Studios will clarify this in a future update for both the Switch and the new Switch 2 game.

Metroid Prime 4 comes out tomorrow, December 4th! This installment features a new voice for Samus Aran – Erin Yvette takes over the role from Jennifer Hale, who previously voiced the character. Krystle Martin performed the motion capture for Samus. If you’re planning to buy the game, check out TopMob’s helpful buying guide.
