Marathon Stolen Art Issue Has Been Resolved

As a big fan of Bungie’s older work, I was really worried when I heard accusations that art from their game Marathon had been taken without permission. Thankfully, it seems like everything’s been sorted out! The artist who raised the concerns just announced they’ve reached a resolution with both Bungie and Sony, and they’re happy with how things turned out. That’s a huge relief!

No one has shared more information about what happened or why things ended. Some people think the artist received a financial settlement, but this hasn’t been officially confirmed.

I’m happy to share that the issue with the Marathon art has been successfully resolved thanks to a collaborative effort with Bungie and Sony Interactive Entertainment.

When reports of stolen artwork surfaced earlier this year, Bungie investigated and determined that a former artist had included the images in a texture used within the game.

Bungie previously stated they would support the artist, and it appears they’ve now followed through on that promise.

Bungie announced in June that Marathon, originally planned to launch on September 23rd, is now delayed with no new release date set.

Sony’s Hermen Hulst stated that the goal for the Marathon project is to develop a game that is truly groundbreaking, original, and captivating for players.

He explained that constantly testing and improving the game – both before and after release – is crucial for its long-term success as a live service.

So, the head honcho at Sony said they’ve learned from their mistakes with the Concord launch. They’re telling us they’ve built systems to make sure Marathon doesn’t end up the same way – basically, they’re promising it won’t be a flop like Concord was. As a gamer, that’s a huge relief to hear!
