Boss from the Abbey in Cronos will definitely give you a hard time. We explain all four stages of the fight

Okay, so I’m tackling this boss in the church at the Abbey in Cronos, and let me tell you, it’s a real challenge! I’m expecting a tough fight, and honestly, I’m a little worried about getting through it. I’m writing this to share how I figured out how to even *get* into the church – those doors are tricky! – and then a breakdown of how to survive all four stages of the battle. Hopefully, this will help other players out there!

The church door puzzle

Later in the game, you’ll explore the Abbey, a large area with a puzzling entrance. You’ll find closed church doors guarded by six statues. To open the doors, you need to place the correct objects on these statues. Some items are already there, and you can move them around. You’ll need to search the Abbey and its catacombs to find the rest. The correct arrangement is:

  1. Statues closest to the closed doors: Shield – Sword.
  2. Central statues: Child – Sickle.
  3. Statues farthest from the closed doors: Cauldron – Trident.

Before you go in, make sure to save your game and gather supplies for the boss fight. A pistol and a rifle are your most useful weapons. Use the pistol to deal with the Orphans, and the rifle to destroy the boss’s glands. Stock up on as much ammo as possible – either from the stash or by buying some – because you could run out during the fight. The same goes for health kits, flamethrower fuel, and Pyre mines. Don’t rely on finding these items at the boss location, so be prepared beforehand.

First phase of the duel with Mother Eliza

The first part of the fight is the easiest. Use this time for two things:

  1. Use the emitter on time anomalies to make explosive barrels appear inside the church. You will find them useful later. Moreover, after some time they may appear again.
  2. Destroy the small crates to get loot out of them. Even if you have a full inventory, you can use it later to quickly restock.

Mother Eliza breathes a damaging acid, so quickly take cover in the side passages until it stops. The boss also performs ground attacks as a warning – be sure to move out of the affected area when you see it starting up.

Focus your attacks on the large orange glands, not the boss itself. During the first stage of the fight, you’ll find these glands surrounding the creature. We suggest using a charged rifle shot to destroy them – a fully upgraded weapon has a chance to eliminate a gland with just three shots.

Second and third phase of the fight

Beginning with phase two, Eliza will send weak but fast enemies called Orphans after you. It’s best to take them out from a distance, as they often jump and attack up close. The boss will repeatedly summon groups of these creatures. A good strategy is to stand near one of the barrels and explode it when a group is close – you might be able to eliminate 5 or 6 of them at once.

During the second part of the battle, you need to destroy the glands located on either side of the main hall. Since they’re closer, you can get rid of them without needing a rifle.

The final stage of the fight mixes elements from the first two phases. The boss continues to summon enemies, but also uses the attacks from the beginning – acid spit and ground tentacles. You’ll need to destroy the glands again, and they’re now hidden better, so you’ll have to get closer to spot them.

Final fourth phase and killing Eliza

The final stage of the duel is the most challenging. Eliza’s mother begins flooding the church with acid. You must find a way to stop her, or you won’t be able to find anywhere safe to hide.

Go see Eliza. She’ll tell you about strange spots on either side of the boss – use the emitter to target them. When you do, the red lights will turn yellow, causing the acid to build up only in front of the boss. Don’t forget to check the dry areas for crates containing useful supplies.

Focus on ending the battle quickly in the limited space before you face the boss. Begin by breaking the crates – they’re full of ammunition.

Take turns doing two actions:

  1. Destroy orange glands.
  2. Stop the monsters heading in your direction. Besides the running orphans, there will also be small creatures exploding with acid. We now advise using fire to stop and destroy monsters, utilizing flamethrowers and mines.

Finally, you need to destroy the orange gland located in the boss’s heart. It’s tougher than the other glands, but don’t forget about the smaller monsters still attacking you. Keep shooting at the orange target while also dealing with the Orphans that come at you.

The fight is over once the final energy source is destroyed. After that, the Traveler can investigate what’s left of the Pathfinder, take the body, and proceed to the next area. Don’t forget to collect pistol ammunition from the church first, as you’ll face new enemies on the way to where the tram is located.
