Nintendo announced it’s bringing the team from Bandai Namco Singapore—who previously helped develop Splatoon 3—onto its own staff. This follows a successful collaboration on the game.
Nintendo plans to take full ownership of Bandai Namco Studios Singapore by April 2026. They’ll initially acquire 80% of the studio, with the remaining 20% purchased later on, after the studio’s operations are running smoothly.
The studio will now be known as Nintendo Studios Singapore. Nintendo explained they decided to acquire it because the studio already works with them, and Nintendo wants to improve its in-house development capabilities.
Bandai Namco Studios Singapore worked with Nintendo on games like Mario Sports Superstars and New Pokemon Snap. There were also reports that they contributed to an early version of Metroid Prime 4, but the game was later rebuilt from the ground up by Retro Studios in 2019.
It doesn’t seem like Bandai Namco is looking to be bought. Earlier this year, Sony invested $463 million in the company, gaining a 2.5% stake. Bandai Namco still owns popular game franchises like Elden Ring, Tekken, and Pac-Man. Recently, the company revealed a former employee is suspected of stealing a significant amount of money, leading to pay reductions for its leaders.
