Prime Video enjoyed a strong year in 2025, with numerous popular shows and some unexpected successes. Among these was one standout title.
The new mystery thriller series launched on October 22nd and quickly became popular. While reviews from critics and viewers have been mixed, Lazarus is surprisingly climbing back up the streaming charts, according to FlixPatrol data from one month after its release.
The series is currently seventh most popular worldwide and remains on the charts. While it struggled to stay in the top 10 in its home country, Lazarus returned to the top 10 on November 22nd, coinciding with its one-month release anniversary.
Okay, so I was checking the streaming charts, and Lazarus made a pretty decent comeback, landing at number eight! It just beat out The Family Man. But the big story is The Summer I Turned Pretty – that show totally dominated all summer, holding onto the number one spot throughout its final season. Seriously, it was everywhere.
The mystery series Lazarus comes from Harlan Coben, the bestselling author who created it with Danny Brocklehurst. This project is a first for Coben – while many of his novels have been adapted, especially by Netflix as part of their ongoing deal, Lazarus is his first series not based on one of his books.
Bill Nighy and Sam Claflin play Jonathan Lazarus and his son, Joel, who have grown apart. When Jonathan seemingly takes his own life, Joel returns home and starts having strange, disturbing experiences. The cast also includes Alexandra Roach, David Fynn, Karla Crome, and Kate Ashfield.
Although Lazarus unexpectedly gained popularity, critics were divided on its quality. It currently has a 46% rating on Rotten Tomatoes from critics, and audiences give it a slightly better, but still lukewarm, 50% score.
Will Lazarus Get Season 2?
The six-episode story of Lazarus has concluded, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s over. Streaming services and networks have often revived limited series into full shows. HBO did this with The White Lotus, and Netflix recently turned Untamed from a miniseries into a continuing series, so a similar future for Lazarus is possible.
There haven’t been any official announcements about Lazarus taking a similar route. But soon after the show came out, he explained what it would take for him to do so, and his request was quite reasonable.
The bestselling author noted Lazarus “is complete. Will there be a Season 2? I don’t know.”
Sam Claflin described the show’s ending as unexpected and praised it, hinting that a second season is possible. However, he explained that whether or not Season 2 happens depends on audience demand, as the story was intentionally left with an open ending.
Lazarus is streaming on Prime Video.
